Anderson has also said he's retired, can't see it anywhere else though .

I'd love to know what's happened behind the scenes in the summer

I actually always liked diamond. I think his treatment by the club has been mysterious.

He scored against the raspberry so will be forever a hero in Mansfield history.

Big shame . When he joined us I thought it was a cracking signing . Definitely didn't see the best of him .

he was a good player in the games he played apart from that horrendous Crewe game, but everyone was poor for that one. We could've really used his experience this year. As someone else says, hero for that last minute header against the sheep dippers

Sorry to hear of Zander's retirement through injury.

Had many a chat with him, he never gave up hope of a full recovery and never spoke against DF even though he clearly wasn't one of his fans. I wish him well for the future.

As for Dave Mirfin, he doesn't expect to be match fit until next year but doing all he can to reach that objective. Question is, will there a place for him in the 1st XI?

Mirfin certainly has a place in the team this season. I believe that with Zander retiring he's now off our payroll and we can use his wages on another player (I believe insurance pays of his contract and is no longer registered to us) so we have a bit of wiggle room in January to get another RWB/CB in.

Good luck to Zander, solid player when fit.

Could someone with a bit of knowledge pick up on Gazza`s point and clarify whether insurance clears his contract and so frees up wages from the payroll?

Always sad to hear when a player can't continue with the sport and passion he loves. I hope he can stay on in a coaching role and pass on his knowledge to Gibbens and future players

someone on twitter reckons he's moved back to Scotland. no idea if this is true or not but can't see him being a coach if this is the case

Sad to hear that Zander has had to retire so early and more importantly so suddenly. We only, fleetingly and not to the extent that Zander would have wanted, seen the best of him during the last season and a third.

I hope that he has had time to plan for a new career, the club has supported him during what could be a challenging transitional period in his life and wish him all the best for his future.

Even though he has been medically retired from the English football league, he can still play in Scotland after a pay out, just a thought & just saying !

What are you basing that on Yorkie. Have you seen the terms of his insurance? Have there been other examples of this?

I'd be supprised if the insurance pays out on this but he can still play professionally in a differnet league.

Sad news for Zander. I wish him all the best in the next stage of his career. Surely someone spoken about so often as being a great leader will go on to coach or manage somewhere.

i base it on the fact my mate played in England got paid out at Oldham then went up to Hamilton and was allowed to play again however not in England for a full time pro club again

It's happened with full time pros 'retiring' then going on to play non league.

True an ex Liverpool full back went to play for Kidderminster in conference many years ago but when they got promoted to FL he couldn’t play for them

Wow I'm really shocked at that. If he can get fit and play in Scotland then hopefully he will. The fact he's off our books is good news for us.
