Jim McCaffrey

Postby htfc_morris » Fri Sep 21, 2018 4:57 pm

Hiya lads and lasses,

I am trying to get in touch with Jim McCaffrey to speak to him about his time at my club, Huddersfield Town, and I am wondering if anyone knows what he's up to these days, or where I can contact him. Or alternatively, can put him in touch with me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

If it’s any help, as far as I am aware he is
‘On the Wing, On the wing’

‘We’ve got Jim, Jim, Jim McCaffery
On the Wing, on the wing!’

I know it doesn’t really help but when that song is in your head it is hard to shift it.

Sue Bird will be able to put you in touch with Jim McCaffrey (and Terry Eccles and Mick Laverick as well.)

Jim McCaffrey still comes a couple of times a season to Field Mill to watch the Stags. He comes with a group of his golfing mates. They normally catch the train from Leicester and enjoy a few beers.

Wasn't the alternative to that,

Jim McCaffrey [or the opposition team's equivalent] walks on water,

na na na na na....... the b*****d sank.

For our younger fans, sung to the tune of 'Deck The Halls'

Or was it just us lot on the West Stand terrace that invented it?

When I left my company in 2013 a friend of Jim McCaffery's arranged for him to come to my leaving do completely unexpectedly - he had been my hero since his first game when he played so well but which was marred by another new signing, Alan Green, having a heart attack at half time and never playing again. He was completely unassuming and if it was possible for him to go up in my estimation he did !! My abiding memories are of him just waiting on the wing for the ball and then performing magic.........he wouldnt have been appreciated in todays game of athletes who play football rather than his of footballers who might be athletes.

My knowledge of him echos a previous post that he has a place at one of the Leicester Hopsitals and does indeed come a couple of times a year to matches still.
