Ian Mackenzie.

Just saw a post from Sue Bird on FB.
She says that her and Kevin attended Ian's funeral today ( Tuesday ).

Must confess I didn't know Ian had passed away.
Ian was a member of our promotion team to the old 2nd division in the 70s.
He and his wife were Landlord & Landlady of the Eagle Tavern on Woodhouse rd.

RIP Ian.

Very sad news. Ian MacKenzie made his debut for Sheffield United aged 19 in March 1970 and made 43 league appearances for the Blades and scored one goal. His league appearances were mainly in the 1971-1972 and 1972-1973 seasons. He was signed by the Stags from Sheffield United in July 1976. He was a key member of the Mansfield Town side that became Division 3 Champions (League 1) in 1976-1977 for the first and only time in our history.

R.I.P. Ian. He joins Gordon Hodgson and Johnny Miller in the Great Field Mill in the Sky.

Here is Ian Mackenzie scoring a goal for Sheffield United against Peterborough in the Watney Cup 1972 (1m 24s). You can also see Billy Dearden in action for the Blades.

Shocked at this very sad news.
Fantastic player for the stags during a great period in our history.
Remember going to the eagle when at college for a lunchtime chip buttie, pint of DD and a game of bar billiards.
RIP Ian

Alan the announcer kept saying that Peter Morris signed Ian when in fact it was Dave Smith in the summer of 1975
