Echo all the sentiments for John . R.i.P.
Would also like to say that Pete is being very selective with his words regarding Johns attendance and involvement with the Stags to the end .Total respect Pete , sure you will miss John more than most on here .

So sad to lose another lifetime stag. Will never forget that away game at Boro in the freight rover . The bus windows smashed and a cold trip home. Happy days never forgotten . Rest in peace dear friend .

Didn't know John as some have said, but this news has made me feel quite sad this morning.
A lovely tribute early on in this thread, rest easy John.

Agreed, I would like to go to pay my respects if Pete posts the funeral arrangements and the family have no objections to fellow fans attending

Here's the photo from the Colchester programme which Pete referred to in his lovely tribute to John at the top of this thread.

RIP John.
What a great pic, and a nice gesture by the club.

Just been confirmed as Fri 14th Sept at 1130am at Holly Cross c of e church upper langwith with burial in church yard immediately after and wake in adjacent langwith Bassett village hall. It is an amber and blue celebration with football shirts and colours, everyone welcome.

A very good friend of mine is a nurse at Ashgate Hospice and she was telling me about a completely and utterly devoted Stags fan they'd had in the hospital recently, it was only just that I've put two and two together that this was John she was talking about.
She said that his family are now taking comfort in the fact that he will never miss a match again as he will always be watching on now. She said he was elated about going into the box for the Accrington game and it was fitting that we hit them for 6 and scored one of the best goals to grace the Field Mill turf for many years. Let's hope the boys get promotion for him. Rest in peace John.

For folk who can’t get to the funeral but would like to pay their respects, the hearse will be travelling along Quarry Lane past the ground at about 1030am on Friday 14th.
