I heard on the radio yesterday that (I think the FA ) some official body or other are setting a official review/investigation into the problems caused by heading the ball.
The emergence of the problems seems to be for ex players who played during the times of the heavier leaden casey type footballs through the early years of t'game through to the 80's as with Kev and Ernie.
How long will it be before there's a total ban on heading the ball or that everyone has to wear a compulsory headguard when playing.
I know that in some younger age groups heading's not allowed now.
With the advent though of the lighter better balls in recent years is there any need for bans on heading.
To take it further there then becomes the issue in boxing circles as in should all boxers wear head guards etc.
Possibly one way round it in football circles would be to insist all proffesional players wore headguards when in their daily training and warm ups therefore not subjecting their nod to the continual bashing of the ball on their head.
Theirs not to reason why
Theirs but to do and die

Apparently every time you receive a blow to the head, you lose brain cells.

A lot on here must have headed the ball many many times then.

Every time you have a pint you lose brain cells. As long as people are aware of what the consequences are when they get into something, there's no reason to ban anything. Educated adults don't need telling what to do.

Told Rooney he shouldn't head the ball, now look what's happened to him?

Evidently they have stated that wearing headguards while boxing could actually be more dangerous for the brain.
Heading is part of the game. The tech behind the construction of the ball has helped but I’ve had a few occasions when I’ve headed a ball and seen stars for a few seconds after. It is part and parcel of the game though

Don't know if it's still available on the internet anywhere, but the Alan Shearer documentary on this issue was very good and well worth a watch.

That's alright then.
It's part and parcel of the game.
Just as chucking a banana at a black player was in the 80's.
And seriously, i've heard some stuff, but come on 007, you've never ever headed a ball.
i would prefer not to.

What the hell are you waffling on about you mentalist ?
Do you not think that heading a ball isn’t part of the game ? Throwing bananas at black players was NEVER part of the game. What a stupid comparison, but not unsurprising.
And why wouldn’t I ever have headed a ball ? I played to a reasonable standard. Have you scored against a league team ? I have

Sorry to disappoint. 1990. We had York City and Scarborough at 8 Signal Regiment for preseason training. Got on well with York with John Bird and Barry Swallow. Not so much with Scarborough with Ray McHale etc as he was a Spireite. We had a friendly on the Friday against their team. They beat us 7-1. I got the one. Scored it through the tubby lad who used to play for Chesterfield and Derbyshire at cricket. Can’t remember his name.
Sorry

If I recall, it was his birthday the night before the friendly game we had and we hosted them in the Sergeant’s Mess. Got him shiters and the team debagged him leaving him naked except for a shirt cuff on one wrist.
Just another night in the Mess.
