Southampton U21s will be prevented from being drawn with Portsmouth, and Newcastle U21s will avoid Sunderland in Round One, as the EFL has committed to work in conjunction with the Police to avoid high-profile clashes in the Group Stages.

LMAO it really is pathetic

Surely the likes of Sunderland and Newcastle play each other at under 19, under 21, under 23 and reserve level already without the kind of trouble that you would only get these days at a Croatia v Serbia game?

At what point in the future will ‘police advice discussions’ be skewed and abused to ensure progression is easier for some clubs rather than others?

It may be another nail in the coffin of Football though I really hope not.

There's been times when Newcastle & Sunderland have played each other in the reserves and they've had 20,000+ there & no trouble at all.

STAGS FOR LIFE wrote::)

"In addition, if there is a situation where two teams meet in the Group Stages for a second successive season, then the Club who was at home in 2017/18 will play away in 2018/19. All EFL Clubs will play two of their three matches at home in the Group Stages."

Based on the stated rules, we must be away to Lincoln, and at home to Scunthorpe and Wolves U21.

Out after the 1st 2 group stage games please.

No self respecting club would want to win this total farce of a competition under its current guise, no way.

If folk are happy to be patronised by watching us play Wolves under 21's then good for you, it's a free world

It's pathetic, and what's worse is how many turn up for the games

I agree tampering with the draw to suit the police is a crazy idea.

However, I don't agree with those who boycott this competition. It can be a money spinner and we can't afford to dismiss it.

The prize money in this competition isn't to be sniffed at, and I was surprised how favourably it compares to the money on offer in the League Cup. These are the figures for 2017/18:

Participation fee: £20k
Group Stage: £10k for a win and £5k for a draw
Round two: £20k for a win
Round three: £40k for a win
Quarter-final: £50k for a win
Runner-up: £50k
Winner: £100k

By comparison, the League Cup only paid prize money to the last four teams left in the competition:

Losing semi-finalists: £25k each
Losing finalist: £50k
Winner: £100k
Those accustomed to privilege may feel that equality is oppression.
