January Transfer Thread

Postby stagmanrob » Tue Nov 21, 2017 1:17 am

I know this seems early, but Evo is notorious for setting the wheels in motion several weeks before the window opens, so he's undoubtedly on the phone to players and agents now.

It's obvious that we need a finisher. Number one priority, because we only have the top two in our division who have lost less games than us....the reason we aren't actively up there with them is our draw column, and out of those the majority have been from winning positions that we had the chances in to kill the game off.

If we're after a goalscorer, immediately I've looked straight at the Sheffield United squad. The reasons being that they are local so relocation is not an issue, they usually have loads of strikers, and their current regular bunch of strikers are on fire meaning the back up options are not geting a look in. We were also in for Hanson so I was checking to see if he's playing enough, as Evo said he would revisit a target in Jan, which I assumed was him.
Top of the pecking order for the Blades is clearly the front two of Sharp and Clarke, then their backup is Donaldson and Brooks.

That leaves Hanson, and completely out of the picture, Mr Ched Evans....now either of those for me sticks away the majority of the chances we have been fluffing.

Also, if Barnet are struggling, Akinde rumours will start to circulate again.

So...I think we are definitely a striker short and compared to the top sides, a scorer from midfield short too (Notts have Grant, Luton have Berry) although any of ours could come good anytime soon.

Do we send Hemmings back though too?

I think Grants deals up in January, although im sure they'll try to extend.

Hopefully they can't then the wheel will definitely fall off.

If he's going anywhere, I'd expect he'll stay at County or a team from League One will pay cash for him. That amount of goals from midfield deserves recognition from a higher level.

But Forest won't sell him. And I doubt he'd leave County whilst they are doing well.

I would keep Hemmings, I think in recent matches we've started to see what he is all about. I wouldn't be shocked if Evans went in for another LB. Benning is well out of favour with him and I don't believe Hunt provides the amount of width a wing back should.

The team is just about ready to fulfil its potential in my opinion, we just need somebody along the lines of Billy Kee, Craig Mackail-Smith, Akinfenwa, perhaps Matty Fryatt up top to add to the blend of strikers we currently have.

When Matt Green left, many couldn't understand why he had been let go....look at his goalscoring record at lincoln thus far and its pretty obvious why!! Kane Hemmings has more league goals than his predecessor in less games and its took fans a while to take to him. I think he will get 10-12 goals.

We also have one of the leading scorers in the division in Danny Rose who is on target for 20-25. We also have Lee Angol coming back to fitness, i think he will get between 10-12 also. If all hit bottom end of the scale then thats 40 goals between them (pretty decent).

People for me are looking in the wrong areas, as stated in a previous thread by myself....we need goals from other areas cos at present that statistic is pretty limp. If we can improve on that i think we will be just fine. We need more goals from the likes of Hamilton, McDonald, Potter, Anderson, Mellis, Atkinson and Butcher. All these get regular playing time and have 4 league goals between them and 1 of those a penalty so just 3 in open play, this is where the problem lies currently imo.

What folk forget is that any player that comes in will more than likely not be match fit. Look how long it’s taken Hemming to get fit. When players are unfit, especially in full back slots, they can easily get found out.

Hemmings is on a season long loan, Oxford have the option to recall
him in Jan. but we don't have the option to send him back in Jan., as far as I know.

What about Kristian Dennis from the sheep fiddlers?
Before everyone has a melt down he is in double figures for the season and one of the leagues top scorers in a woeful side.
The added advantage of us taking him off them would be it would almost certainly codemn them to a few years in non league football.

Has longer than a year left on his deal, so they won't sell to us and will ask for silly money. They got Clucas from us because he had no time hardly left on his contract.

I think Ricky Miller at Peterborough is someone we may look at potentially for a loan deal? 42 goals in the conference for Dover last year but it isn't working out for him at Posh, few rumours he's fell out with the manager. Also, we seem to do some business with them every window!

Porter, Akinde, Dennis and Pope will be names banded around all over our league and the league above if their respective teams keep struggling down at the bottom end of the table.

Porter from Crewe would be a great deal. I'll go back to my tried and trusted Billy Kee shout too.

We really need an experienced big man in January. Someone happy to come on late in games and have the ball lumped up to him.

A lot depends how the next 6 weeks go. If we carry on doing fairly well and move on up a bit then lots of changes will unsettle things. We'd maybe only make 1 or 2.... If we're still not top 7 then he might move 4/5 in and a simular number out.

I'd love for us to try and get that Dembele at Grimsby.

He looks like a player that won't be at our level for long.

Depends how picky we’re being, areas I’d think were considering if the right player is available:
Right back. Anderson has had to cover white when his form dropped, he’s done a good job but do we need specialist cover.
Centre Mid. We need cover for Byrom, is arguable he’s not been spectacular but glued the team together. Our form dropped when he was injured and picked up when he returned. Coincidence?
Forward. Might be less of an issue with Hemmings starting to find the net but apart from last night we’ve been creating a lot and not scoring enough despite Rose’s record. As many have pointed out it feels like something to address especially with Angol’s recent injury problems.
