They are in the relegation zone on goal difference.

IF Chesterfield stay up this season due to four teams being worse but stumble across the finishing line with poor results then this could turn out to be just as bad as relegation.
Next season (unless they have a big upturn in fortunes off the field) they will have a poorer squad and will almost certainly be nailed on for relegation.
Another full season of home defeats and disappointments could result in their home crowds bottoming out around 3-4k as most of their newer fans (post 2010) will not fancy another season of struggle with not much hope or aspiration to cling on to (the only upside is retaining more away fans).
If they go down this season and have a good next season at the top of the league (like they always seem to do so and could do so again) then that could rejuvenate them. Alternatively another season of frustration albeit in a higher division could be the tipping point in which they could lose a third to half their fanbase?
First match : 04.01.1975 home v Cambridge Utd F.A.Cup 3rd Round 1-0 Clarke

I think they'll go down. Mowbray is not a good appointment in my view. not good at all.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

Mowbray would be the final nail in the coffin for Cheaterfield. He was useless at Coventry.

Read that two ways....

He's paying back the loyalty of giving him a chance.

Or

No one wants to buy him for the money the club are asking therefore goes on a free in the summer.

He did what was asked of him and that was to keep them up. With so much going off behind the scenes with the owners Sisu that it's unfair to blame the manager imo.

Got a friend who is a Cov fan, certainly not a Mowbray fan though. Terrible appointment, a bloke who led a side to the bottom of league one takes over a side at the bottom of league one.................jolly good work Spireites, jolly good indeed!

Totally agree, he's done nothing since the last job before Celtic. Hope he continues in that rich vein.

It's a rung on the ladder for Mowbray I feel, just another rung downwards to football oblivion.

Apparently it is not definitely Mowbray, according to the BBC football website. It is between him, Gary Caldwell and an unnamed person. Ashley Carson is making an announcement tomorrow around lunch time. Maybe the first choice has turned it down?

Bobs Board saying part of the Ched Evans agreement was to have an extension to his contract if no suitable bids come in for him. Apparently injured again this time with a broken jaw. As for Mowbray their fans are 50/50 on the appointment.
