Jesus Christ. Is it actually John Lomas who writes the Stags stuff now or is it done by some centrally based sports student journalist in Sheffield and John's name is lazily slapped on the heading?

Whoever writes it John Lomas should be v embarrased.

It’s extremely unprofessional and it’s his name on it. Everyone thinks it’s him - over to you John

That’s twice in a week/10 days by my reckoning. How can he look DF in the face on his pressers is beyond me. Very unprofessional for a professional journalist

It is not the article that contains the error. It is the facebook post that advertises it. Likely to have been done by a student I would think.

And his previous article "Steven Gerrad"?

And the one before "David Holdsworth" (Mansfield manager)?

Damn those students

I wonder if all his numerous articles criticising Mansfield supporters were the work of students

Shocking yet again from a paper that we all read years ago but now hardly bother.

Time for Johnson Press to pull the plug.

Didn't they refer to flitcroft as Evans as some point or am I remembering that wrong?

Oh how we miss Stan Searl, he was reporting before lap tops and using his note book and type writer, a real legend.

We need a local news outlet. We need a local news outlet that deals in Mansfield and Ashfield news; not one that rips idle rumour and tittle-tattle off of social media, concentrates on minor courtroom justice, produces weekly missing teenagers that pop back up found the next day under the guise of 'news', posts hopeless online polls about nothing in particular and report stuff from elsewhere under the Johnson Press blanket of regional mediocrity.

Johnson Press are the Haribo of journalism. They take all your once favourites, bag em together, sprinkle it with additives and produce something that looks the same but ultimately tastes like shi'ite.

Isn’t there a Stewart Rickersley rag called Mansfield and Ashfield Journal being published.

My ex called round today. She was clearing her attic and found a carrier bag full of all the local rags (CHAD, NEP, Observer & Recorder) carrying stories from the Freight Rover win in 1987.

The quality of these papers 31 years ago was amazing, the CHAD is about half an inch thick and the front page boast of a circulation of 150,000. At that time that must have been virtually every house in north Notts (and it certainly felt like it as a kid delivering them).

The NEP is a broadsheet and the Mansfield based articles are clearly written by local journalists.

Funny thing in the classified, cars seem comoaratively expensive compared to today, whereas property is dirt cheap, loads of houses under 10k in the CHAD.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

I worked with Stan and, you’re right, he was a terrific bloke. However he wasn’t immune from the odd typo. I remember one occasion when something slipped passed the proof-readers (yes - the Chad had them in those days!):

“Midway through the second half of this exciting League Cup round 2 replay, Chesterfield’s Kevin Randall broke free of his marker and, from the edge of the box, unleashed a ‘rocket-of-a-shit’ that Rod Arnold did well to parry over the bar”

The problem is that there is no money to be made in proper local journalism though - the money is made through clickbait, up-sensationalising everyday activities into stories, and old school adverts and the stories themselves come somewhere around joint 9th on the priority list. The name 'The Chad' is the most important thing, without it no-one would take a second look - the owners own 'The Chad' name, but there is no one home.

My gran used to send the Chad out to Germany in the mid 80s and it was essential reading.

I don’t think I’d wipe my dung trumpet on it.

I was at that game, it's not a typo, Randall did indeed unleash a rocket-of-a-shit, very unpleasant, surprised we signed him after that.

Used to love the Chad but the only way papers like that can continue in business is to advertise, which is why the current Chad is virtually unreadable.
