Leading goalscorer signs new contract
mansfieldtown.net, Tuesday 23 January 2018

Mansfield Town’s leading goalscorer Danny Rose has signed a new contract with the club, which will keep him at One Call Stadium until the end of the 2019/20 season, we are delighted to announce.

Moreover, at the expiration of his new contract, the club has the option to extend it by a further year.

The Barnsley-born frontman has netted 13 goals in all competitions this season to help the Stags to their current 7th place in Sky Bet League Two, just two points from third position.

The 24-year-old, who joined the club from Bury in May 2016, has improved considerably since Steve Evans became Mansfield boss in November 2016.

Now a fans’ favourite at the club, Rose is widely believed to be one of the hottest properties in Sky Bet League Two.

After putting pen to paper, boss Steve Evans told http://www.mansfieldtown.net: “I’m absolutely delighted that young Danny has signed an extended contract and I’m very grateful to Carolyn Radford [chief executive officer] for getting this over the line.

“I pointed it out to the Radford family back in the summer, that if Danny progressed as much as I thought he would, then we should be securing him with a contract that keeps the wolves from the door.

“In the past week, we have already turned down offers from two high-end League One clubs [for Danny] so from that respect, this new contract is positive news for our supporters.

“When I arrived at the football club, Danny was obviously not a key part of the team, but I remembered the kid from his early days at Barnsley and latterly with Bury and I always thought highly of him.

"I often said to Paul Raynor ‘if we can get the best out of Danny Rose then he’s going to be one hell of a player, because I know he’s got it in the tank’.

“In fairness to the player himself - and with slight applause to Paul Raynor - Danny is the one who is responsible for producing some top performances which for me make him one of the best three strikers in Sky Bet League Two.”

Frontman Rose credits teammates for goals haul

Leading goalscorer Danny Rose paid credit to his team-mates and the Stags’ supporters after putting pen to paper on a new two-and-a-half year contract yesterday.

The news, released at 5pm yesterday, delighted Stags' supporters who have seen the frontman develop considerably under manager Steve Evans.

Rose, though, was in modest mood and firstly thanked his colleagues for helping him to 13 goals in all competitions so far this season.

“It’s been a very good season so far but I don’t want the standards to drop,” said Rose.

“I said this earlier on in the season: I want to continue to perform and get the goals for the lads to help us continue our good form. I’ve not reached this 13-goal mark before [in a season] in my career so it’s nice to hit that mark by January and I’m hoping to continue that throughout the season.

“I have to give credit to my teammates. Without them I wouldn’t have had the chances. There have been some great crosses put in to me so I must pay credit to my teammates.

“I’m just hoping we can achieve something now. I want to keep going to see how many goals I can get and see what we can reach as a team.

“I’m delighted. I’m very happy to get this [contract] over the line and I’m now just looking forward to seeing what we can achieve here this season.

“I don’t want to sit on this contract. I want to keep going and see how many goals I can get and [see] what we can do as a team.

On the Stags’ fans, he said: “The fans have been brilliant ever since I’ve arrived here. I can’t state how good they’ve been to me, with the song they’ve created etc. I want to repay them even more with good performances and goals as a part of this squad.”

Asked about his targets for the remainder of the season, he said: “My aim is to get as many goals as possible. As a team we want to remain in the promotion mix.”

Rose commented upon his favourite goals this season.

“I really enjoyed the ones against Notts County and my hometown club Shaw Lane (in the FA Cup). Notts County was a big derby - I know how big that game was here and then it was nice to go home and get the goals against Shaw Lane.”

Stags delight as Rose signs extension with League One clubs chasing his services
chad.co.uk, by JOHN LOMAS, Tuesday 23 January 2018

Mansfield Town were delighted and relieved to see leading goalscorer Danny Rose sign a new contract with the club this afternoon which will keep him at One Call Stadium until the end of the 2019/20 season. The club also has the option to extend it by a further year after that.

While fans clamour for news of new signings in the current transfer window, this is still a crucial bit of business for the club to complete with top League One clubs already making enquiries to sign him. The Barnsley-born frontman has netted 13 goals in all competitions this season to help the Stags to seventh place in Sky Bet League Two, just two points from third position ahead of Saturday’s trip to Morecambe.

The 24-year-old, who joined the club from Bury in May 2016, has improved considerably since Steve Evans’ became Mansfield boss in November 2016.

LOMAS ON STAGS: Relief to hear Rose is staying put
chad.co.uk, by JOHN LOMAS, Wednesday 24 January 2018

When Mansfield Town told me there was news on Danny Rose imminent my heart sank. Here we are in the midst of the January transfer window with Rose top scorer and catching the eye of bigger clubs. I was fully expecting Stags would be battling a bid from above and we know every player has his price and that League One clubs are sniffing around. So, in my mind, briefly, I thought we might have seen Rose’s last game in a Stags shirt with Steve Evans then left to frantically try to spend the money on a replacement or two. So what a relief to hear Rose is extending his stay here instead.

He is the first ‘signing’ in the window - and he is a crucial one. Stags know his value and by persuading him to stay, it’s a real coup for them. Rose fully deserves his new deal. Evans said pre-season he could score 20 goals and Rose is well on his way to doing that. Supporters are desperate to see a new face or two through the door before the window slams shut at 11pm next Wednesday. But, in the meantime, they can celebrate Rose’s decision to sign on the dotted line and stay in the trenches to try to help get Stags into League One. However, as much as he publicly says he is happy with what he’s got if no one else can be signed, you can bet that in private Stags boss Steve Evans is desperate for two or three new faces. Football can move very quickly and it would only take bad news from Jacob Mellis’ scan result this week, a change of heart from Oxford United over the loan of Kane Hemmings and/or a couple of knocks in what will be another physical encounter at Morecambe this Saturday for Stags’ season to start crashing down around them. One defeat in 15 League Two games shows how well Evans has recruited and then knitted together his current side. The way they twice came from behind to win at the death last weekend against Cheltenham speaks absolute volumes for their tenacity and belief It is a very talented squad but one of the smaller ones up there in the mix. I can still see us all sat round the radio/computers at 10.45 next Wednesday evening and Evans pulling a rabbit or two out the hat at the last minute! Whoever he signs or whatever he does you can bet it won’t go down well with a small number of ‘fans’ sitting near the dug-outs. I find it incredible that Stags have lost once in 15 League games, sit two points off the play-offs and on Saturday won an absolute thriller 3-2 against Cheltenham at the death - and yet Evans was too upset to come and speak to the press afterwards after nasty abuse aimed at his bench. I have said this recently and I say it again - this is a highly experienced manager used to getting stick. So the way these ‘boo boys’ are behaving is well above the norm, unreasonable and downright upsetting. It sounds like Paul Raynor is getting the worst of it, but Evans is upset that Raynor deserves none of it. I would be gobsmacked if Evans and Raynor walked away from a project which is going so well - yes, it really is going well ‘boo boys’! But you can only take so much in any walk of life and these guys are busting a gut to get Stags into League One as soon as possible. This season looks set to be the best chance the club has had since that Millennium Stadium final heartbreak at Cardiff in 2004. So it’s annoying to see a difficult task made harder by the behaviour of a tiny minority. I am sure the rest of the stadium would happily have a whip-round to buy them something else to do on a Saturday afternoon. Football fans - as always - pay their money and deserve an opinion. But, when things are going well, those opinions really should be good ones. In the meantime, let’s celebrate Rose’s decision to stay and look forward to seeing who clambers in through the window to join him before it closes.
