Gaffer updates fans on potential signings
mansfieldtown.net, 29 June 2017 Stags' boss Steve Evans has provided supporters with an update on the club's ongoing transfer business as he looks to finalise his squad. In Tuesday's news conference, the gaffer revealed that he had two further targets as he looks to complete his squad ahead of the 2017/18 season. And speaking exclusively to http://www.mansfieldtown.net at today's first pre-season training session, the manager says the hard work is ongoing in the club's pursuit of his targets. "The chief executive (Carolyn Radford) is working very hard to try and secure in particular one signing for us - maybe two - but in particular one," said the Stags' boss. https://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/2017/june/Gaffer-updates-fans-on-potential-signings/ "[I've had] fantastic support again from John and Carolyn Radford - what can I say other than to the camera, off the record, on the record - thank you. "They're trying to make it happen but if we don't achieve that target, we have other people in mind, but let's pursue one objective at a time and then we'll go forward. "If they're not on the plane to Malta, it won't give me one bit of concern - it's all to be ready on the opening day of the season. There's no trialists, there's no trialists coming in, we're very specific in our targets." Today's pre-season training session gave the gaffer an opportunity to see his new-look squad together for the first time and he was impressed by the shape in which his players have returned. "We have to give enormous credit to Nottingham Trent University - the facilities are fantastic. "In fairness to the players, they're the boys that have to come back in good shape and every one of them has come back to super measurements, so we're pleased with the work they've done in the last three weeks and they've worked to the programme. "For half the group, it's probably been very light because they're doing more indoor measurements and scanning and elements of that nature, whereas the boys here on the field have been working so hard since 9 o'clock this morning. "The players deserve enormous credit for coming back in the shape [they have], but of course our objective is to get through today, tomorrow and Saturday and take everybody on the plane ready to train on Monday evening in Malta." The club expects to be able to release more details the itinerary for the trip to Malta tomorrow and the boss is looking forward to taking his squad to the Mediterranean island. "I keep saying it, but if you fail to prepare then prepare to fail and these guys, none of them, none of them to a man have come back in a shape that gives us nothing but plaudits for them. "That's the first stage - the second stage is to get through three or four days of this testing period and then let's get the balls out, do some intense work and enjoy the facilities that we're going to enjoy in Malta. "[We'll] meet some great supporters that are travelling over to spend some time with us and then we'll come back and hopefully do ourselves some justice at the One Call Stadium against Sheffield Wednesday."
