Keith Curle warms his hands on the pitch heaters after the surface passed an inspection

Carlisle United's game against Mansfield this afternoon is ON after a pitch inspection at Brunton Park.

Match referee Sebastian Stockbridge assessed the playing surface at about midday.

And the Blues confirmed it had been deemed playable by the official.

The inspection followed a night of freezing temperatures at the stadium.

The club have been using standard pitch covers on the playing surface for most of this week with additional covering at the Warwick Road End of the pitch.

Temperatures falling below -4C overnight had put the game in doubt.

But Keith Curle's team will now be able to continue their bid to reach the top of League Two this afternoon.

Victory for United, and defeat for Plymouth at Morecambe, will send the Blues to the summit of the table.

Kick-off is 3pm.
