FA Cup 2nd round draw:

Sheffield United vs Oldham Athletic or Mansfield Town

FA Cup draw just perfect for Mansfield Town’s Adam Chapman

Mansfield Town midfielder Adam Chapman has described the Stags’ potential Emirates FA Cup second round tie away at Sheffield United as ‘perfect’ after the draw was made last night.

Stags will face the League One club on Saturday, December 5, but only if they beat Oldham Athletic in the first round replay next Tuesday at the SportsDirect.com Park, following a goalless draw on Saturday at One Call Stadium.

Chapman, 25, who is the only player to have started in every Mansfield match this season, began his career with the South Yorkshire club, but was unable to break through into the Blades’ first team.

“It couldn’t have been a more perfect draw for me,” said Chapman.

“Obviously, I started there (at Sheffield United), but they let me go. We played them two years on the spin when I was at Oxford, but I was injured for both games.

“There’s little need for an extra incentive heading into any match, because everyone in our squad wants to win every game that we play. But for me personally, it would be extra special to get into the next round of the competition.

“But firstly we have a job to do at Oldham and our focus will be on that match next Tuesday before we talk any further about Sheffield United.”

Stags could have beaten League One strugglers Oldham at the first time of asking on Saturday, but again failed to put their chances away as they went a third game without scoring.

However, before the replay, Stags have a tough trip away to crisis club Northampton Town this Saturday.

The Cobblers have made a fine on-field start and sit fifth, but off the field the club is in liquidation and faces a winding-up petition in court on Monday over its finances.
