The 21-year-old, who was previously with Sky Bet League One side Walsall, featured on more than 50 occasions for Dean Smith’s team and also spent time on loan at York City last season.

Born in Sandwell, West Midlands, the youngster graduated through the academy ranks at the Banks Stadium and signed a professional contract in 2011.

After a loan spell at Evesham United, he made his professional debut for the Saddlers in November 2012 and continued to improve week-on-week.

He spent time on loan at York City in 2014/15 and made nine appearances in the Minstermen’s successful battle to stave off relegation.

Speaking shortly after sealing the deal, manager Adam Murray said: “We’re over the moon about Malvind signing for us. He had a number of options from a higher level, but chose to be part of our vision.

“He is a young attacking full-back that has good experience at Football League level and will bring good quality to our team.”

New signing Malvind Benning is excited about the club’s vision moving forward, having made the switch to One Call Stadium.

The attacking full-back, formerly of Walsall, became our fourth summer signing late on Friday afternoon and joins Adam Chapman, Mitchell Rose and Matt Green on the list of our new recruits.

Explaining how the move came about, Benning said: “I had a meeting on Tuesday with the gaffer and his team and the main attraction for me is [this move represents] a fresh start. It’s a fresh manager and he’s got good vision for the club, bringing in technical players which I like to think I am.

“Hopefully, we can kick on and push towards the top end of the table.”

The 21-year-old also revealed he turned down offers from other clubs, in order to make the move to One Call Stadium: “I did have other interest from [clubs in] League One and [one club] in League Two as well.

“The reason why I came here is because I feel at my age now, I need to be playing games and I think that I’ve got a great opportunity here. The club’s vision is really what persuaded me.”

Benning made over 50 appearances for his former employers, having graduated all the way through their academy and youth set-up.

Discussing his career and playing style, he continued: “I’ve been at Walsall since I was in the Under 8s and this is the first situation that I’ve been in [where I’ve been released].

“I like to think that I’m an attacking full-back which is what the gaffer wants. I like to play passing, attractive football. My aim is to get as many assists as possible and hopefully some goals.”

Benning made nine appearances during a loan spell at York City last term and played a part in helping secure the Minstermen’s Football League status for another season.

Asked what impressions he’s formed of Sky Bet League Two, the youngster added: “When I first went [to York] I thought this league would be a bit of a ‘long ball’ game, but that’s not the case.

“With the vision the gaffer has got here, which is to play football, I feel it’s more of a footballing league. You do get the odd team which likes to lump it forward, but I think it’s a decent league.

“I know there’s not much [between the teams] at all, so that’s why I’m hoping that it’ll be a good season for us.”
