Stags receive international clearance for Lambe

New signing Reggie Lambe has been granted international clearance, the club can confirm this afternoon.

The 23-year-old put pen-to-paper with us on Wednesday and is now available for selection ahead of tomorrow’s Sky Bet League Two encounter at home to Carlisle United after the club received the green light from oversees.

Lambe has operated in a variety of positions during his relatively short career to date including right-back, right-wing, centre-midfield and as a frontman.

Born in Hamilton, Bermuda, the 23-year-old began his career in the academy ranks at Ipswich Town.

Lambe featured frequently in the Tractor Boys’ reserves in 2009/10, scoring 11 goals in 29 outings, and he impressed boss Roy Keane sufficiently enough to be given his professional debut for a League Cup tie at Shrewsbury Town in August 2009.

After making five league appearances for Ipswich and spending time on loan at Bristol Rovers in 2011/12, the youngster joined Toronto FC in December 2011.

Lambe featured on 55 occasions during two seasons in the Major League Soccer (MLS), but when Toronto began signing high-profile players, such as Jermaine Defoe, he became a free agent.

A three-month spell at Nyköpings BIS in Sweden followed, where he scored once in 12 appearances, before he returned to the United Kingdom and spent time on trial with us.

Lambe also boasts good pedigree at international level, having made his full debut for Bermuda aged just 16 - thus becoming the youngster-ever Ipswich Town player to receive full international honours.

To date, Lambe has received 15 caps for Bermuda and his team-mates include Nakhi Wells of Huddersfield Town.

Manager Paul Cox had hoped to get get the deal done in time to boost his injury-hit squad for last weekend’s trip to Wycombe. It didn’t happen and Cox and fans feared the deal would fall though.

But Lambe signed today with a delighted Cox saying he hoped he could also add another new face as well.
