Mansfield Town Football Club Ltd have warded off High Court moves by the tax man to have it wound up by one of the country’s leading insolvency judges. The case was dealt with at a brief hearing in London this morning during which the club was listed with more than 200 other companies also facing winding up moves from creditors.

Among the others were three more major names from the world of football, Leeds United Football Club Ltd, Accrington Stanley and Hereford United.

The move against Mansfield Town was made by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in respect of an undisclosed debt.

This morning counsel for HMRC asked the judge to dismiss it. Though no more was said, such a move normally means that the debt has been paid.

Had Mrs Registrar Christine Derrett wound the club up its affairs would effectively have been handed over to an Official Receiver.

Her job would then have been to do his best to ensure that club’s debts were all paid off by selling any assets available and then bringing business to a close.
