The 26-year-old, who made over 100 league appearances during his three-year stay with us, featured on 32 occasions last term - scoring his only goal of the campaign in a 2-2 draw with Portsmouth.

The highlight of Meikle’s time at One Call Stadium came during the 2012/13 season when he was a member of our squad which won the Conference Premier title.

Everyone at Mansfield Town would like to thank Lindon Meikle for his contributions over the past three seasons and wish him the best of luck in his future career.

York City have completed the signing of 26 year-old winger Lindon Meikle.

Lindon, who can also play up front as a striker, joins the club on a two-year deal and becomes Nigel Worthington's eighth signing of a productive summer.

Lindon is from Nottingham and began his career with local non-league side Eastwood Town, where he spent the first five years of his early career.

In 2011 he joined Mansfield Town, where he played until the end of last season. As York City supporters will remember, Lindon was part of the Mansfield Town side that faced The Minstermen in the 2011/2012 Play-Off Semi-Finals, and was also part of the Stags' side that won the Conference Premier title the following season.

His good performances were also recognised internationally in 2012 when he was awarded an England 'C' cap.

After meeting the local media this morning at Bootham Crescent, new signing Lindon Meikle said: "I'm absolutely buzzing about joining the club. When I got the phone call yesterday morning I was hoping to come and have a conversation with Nigel but, next minute, a contract was coming out and he offered me a deal and it was like 'Wow'! I rang my dad and he was absolutely buzzing and told me 'What are you playing at? Go and sign it now!'".

York City Manager, Nigel Worthington, said: "Lindon is a player who's got terrific pace, is very direct and he's got something that Steve and myself were looking at over the summer that we thought would be a nice addition to the group. To have the pace of Anthony Straker and now to have the pace of Lindon is a plus. When a young player like Lindon became available we moved very quickly to secure his services."

We would like to welcome Lindon Meikle to York City and hope he enjoys his time with The Minstermen.

York City signing Lindon Meikle eager for return to 4-4-2
yorkpress.co.uk, Wednesday 2nd July 2014

FLYING winger Lindon Meikle is relishing the chance to play 4-4-2 football again having joined York City from Mansfield.

The Minstermen have made Meikle their eighth summer signing after he penned a two-year deal and the 26-year-old attacker is now looking forward to impressing in his favoured formation.

With the Stags employing wing-backs last season, Meikle was largely restricted to bench warming as 27 of his 32 outings came as a substitute.

But City chief Nigel Worthington is a big 4-4-2 advocate and the ex-Eastwood Town wide man said: "I didn't get much game time last season and the system the team were playing did not suit me.

"It was a 3-5-2 formation with no wingers, so I didn't get many chances because the manager didn't want to rotate systems. The style of football didn't help much either.

"I am quite small but all Mansfield wanted to do was boom the ball forward. Every player wants to start games and I have a better chance with a team that plays 4-4-2."

Meikle is also hoping to follow the example of City centre-back John McCombe, who was jettisoned by Mansfield boss Paul Cox midway through last season having only made five league appearances in as many months.

The 29-year-old defender went on to forge an outstanding partnership with Keith Lowe at the heart of the City defence, as the side conceded just six times in the club's last 19 matches and marched into the Sky Bet League Two play-offs.

"If you look at John McCombe, they were saying he wasn't not good enough at Mansfield, but he ended up marshalling York into the play-offs, so that speaks for itself," Meikle reasoned.

City's latest signing is also pleased to have McCombe as a team-mate again rather than an adversary.

One of Meikle's two league starts last term came during the Minstermen's 1-0 win at Mansfield in March.

"I played up front in that game," the former England C international recalled. "I was chucked in even though I hadn't played many matches and, although I was grateful for that, York were solid and won easily.

"Michael Coulson ran rings around our players and I couldn't get by John. He won everything in the air and on the ground and the centre backs gave me nothing at all."

Meikle went on to admit that it took little time for him to commit the next two years of his career to the Minstermen, explaining: "My agent rang me at the start of this week and asked me if I could get up to York because Nigel Worthington wanted to speak to me.

"I thought I would be going for a chit-chat with the manager for him to get know to me but I spoke to him and the chairman and my agent rang me ten minutes afterwards to tell me they were keen and wanted to sign me.

"It was a very good offer but I wanted to consult my dad first and he was absolutely buzzing about the move because he couldn't wait for me to get away from Mansfield. I've played against York many times in the past and had good battles against them and always enjoyed the great atmosphere here."

York City have signed former Mansfield Town forward Lindon Meikle on a two-year contract.
The 26-year-old was a free agent after spending the last three seasons with the Stags, making 124 appearances in all competitions and scoring 12 goals.
He is the seventh player to join the Bootham Crescent side this summer.
"I've played against York City a lot of times and I've always admired the way they play and the atmosphere the fans create," he told BBC Radio York.

"I've heard a lot about the manager and I'm hopeful he can develop my game a lot."
