He said: “We’ve got a 10k run at Holme Pierrepont. It’s similar to an assault course with swimming, climbing and running, but it’s mainly running.

“I want to get the boys into a work ethic but within a team environment, so we’re looking at different options at the moment to try and raise some money for a good cause.

“I’m sure that the boys will embrace it,” added Cox.

Yesterday, we announced details regarding a home friendly against Sheffield United on Saturday 20 July, and our boss insists he’ll be using this match, along with others, to monitor players’ fitness levels.

“It’s a tasty fixture and I’m sure it’ll be a game that our supporters will enjoy,” continued our boss.

“If I’m being honest, [all I want out of our pre-season matches] is fitness. We’ll work hard and I’m going to raise the bar again this pre-season and do things a little bit differently.

“[In Malta], we’re going out there to work. They’ll be some good temperatures, but the boys working twice a day with the match on the Saturday.

“There’ll be time for the new lads to bond and get to know each other, but we’re mainly going out there to work and improve our fitness [levels].

“As long as we’re trying to do the right things, fitness levels are good and we’re physically and mentally ready for the start of the season, then that’s all I’m concerned about.”

Our boss has also confirmed that he has created a new twitter account (@PaulCoxMTFC).

“I’ve just been dragged, kicking and screaming, into this time-zone. My wife and I have taken down the sun dial in the back garden and we actually have clocks now,” laughed Cox.

He added: “I don’t actually know how to use it, but I’m sure in the next few days, I’ll get the hang of it.”
