The 24-year old, a former Charlton Athletic trainee, has previously played for Yeovil Town, Wycombe Wanderers and Cambridge United, amongst others.

“The club seems very ambitious and wants to compete in the next division. These are exciting times here," said Murtagh, speaking to the club's website http://www.mansfieldtown.net

“The club's ambition of wanting to push on and progress in the Football League was a big factor in me signing here.”

Murtagh is the third new addition at One Call Stadium during the close season, following the signings of Jamie McGuire and Paul Black.

His contract will commence on 01 July 2013

Midfielder Keiran Murtagh insists it was the ambition of Mansfield Town for the future, which persuaded him to join us ahead of next season.

The 24-year-old, who was formerly with Macclesfield Town, made 44 appearances for the Silkmen as they finished mid-table in the Conference Premier last term.

“I met with the manager a while ago, and I thought that signing for this club was the right choice for me,” said Murtagh.

“The style of football that the team plays, the location and the future plans of the club, were key factors in my decision to come here.

“I know that this club is very ambitious in that they don’t want to stand still; they want to push forward and try to win promotion, which is good.

“There’s a new training facility coming soon, so there are exciting times at this club at the moment.”

Murtagh already boasts experience in the Football League following a two-year stint at Yeovil Town, and has also played at international level for Antigua & Barbuda.

He added: “I did my research before I signed, and obviously having played against the team last season I knew that it was a very good team.

“When the opportunity [to sign for Mansfield] came up, I was really interested straight away. The club didn’t really need to be sold much to me.”

So what qualities can we expect to see from Murtagh next season?

“I’m a ball-playing player. I like to get on the ball, I’ve got good distribution and I’m very strong,” said the former Macclesfield Town star.

“The midfielders already here are very good players, but I hope I can bring something different [to the team] with my range of passing.”
