The 23-year-old has made 32 appearances for The U's in League Two this season.

A former Sheffield United player, Chapman also has international experience, having won seven caps for Northern Ireland Under 21s.

He was part of the Oxford side that won promotion to the Football League, via the play-offs in 2010.

Manager Paul Cox said: “After losing Anthony Howell for a short period of time, it was important that we strengthened in the centre of midfield.

“We had various options, but when we learned that Chappy was available, we were keen to bring him here.

“He'll add a bit of everything to our midfield. He's a strong player, with great technical ability.”

Chapman will be part of the squad which travels to face Woking this evening in the Blue Square Bet Premier (7.45pm).

Mansfield Take Chapman on Loan For Remainder of Season
06-03-2013 12:15

Blue Square Bet Premier club Mansfield Town have taken midfielder Adam Chapman on loan from npower League Two side Oxford United until the end of the season.Chapman, 23, started his career with Sheffield United, with whom he signed professionally in the summer of 2007 and going on to captain the reserves.

He picked up a number of caps for Northern Ireland under-21s before joining Oxford on loan in January 2009, which was later extended to the end of that season.

After the season finished Chapman was signed by United for £15,000, going on to become a lynchpin in midfield and winning the man of the match award when United beat York City 3-1 in the Conference Promotion Play-Off final.

After a spell out of the game, Chapman returned to Oxford in September 2011, and following a five-game loan period with Newport County last season he again established himself in the United side.

Ironically, in January 2012 Chapman trialled with Mansfield with a view to a loan move, which in the end did not materialise.
