The Stags are on an exceptional run of form with nine wins in their last 10 games after Saturday's 1-0 home win over AFC Telford, and have also won seven of their last eight away games.

But the Stags manager is aware that the gruelling schedule of two games a week for almost the rest of the season is going to take its toll and that his squad may need a little help to get over the line.

“The boys are playing really well now and they have a great spirit and hunger,” said Cox. “I wouldn't want to do anything to affect their mindset.

“I know everyone wants to play, but no one is bigger than the club and I need to be able to cope with loss of form and a few niggling injuries. But the players I bring in have to be the right characters with the right mindset.”

Cox has one player with 'a great pedigree' coming in to train with the squad today, who is one of several players he is looking at that can play anywhere across the front line. If things worked out, he could be involved by the weekend when Stags are at home to Stockport County.

With Anthony Howell and Adam Murray in the wars and Gary Roberts departed, Cox is also looking at central midfielders with a chance that one might sign in time for the Woking trip if talks go well today.

The Cards are enjoying a superb season back at the BSBP level, winning six and drawing one of their last nine matches to sit proudly in 10th spot.

“They are one of the form sides at the minute and it is a game in which we are going to have to be at our best to come away with anything,” said Cox.

“Woking have had some fantastic results of late so it's going to be a tough one.

“They were a giant at this level a few years back and have had an excellent season for their first year back. So all credit to the manager (Garry Hill), he's done a fantastic job.”

Mansfield have doubts over John Dempster (ankle) and Louis Briscoe (tight hamstring) and both will be given fitness tests before the gruelling four-hour trip down to the Kingfield Stadium in Surrey

Blue Square Bet Premier club Woking have confirmed that they have agreed terms with Barclays Premier League side Queens Park Rangers for the loan signing of Adam Francis until the end of the season.

Francis, 20, is a striker and the son of former England skipper Gerry Francis.

The 20-year-old is part of Marc Bircham's Elite Development Squad at Loftus Road.

He recently returned from a one-month loan spell with Conference South side Staines Town and also spent time on loan at Ryman League Premier Division outfit Kingstonian last season.
