Summary:
Stags in talks over Jake Speight.
Lee Hughes could be a potential target but no enquiry has been made.

And Cox said although he had discussed the idea of trying to bring veteran Notts County striker Lee Hughes to the One Call Stadium, that was as far as it had gone, with the Stags making no firm enquiry.

The Stags hope to wrap up the deal for Speight today.

Cox is also looking to sign two more central defenders, with talks on-going with four players, including Martin Riley and John Dempster.

Striker Matt Rhead will be full-time next season, after quitting his job at Toyota (correction by Martin - it was actually JCB). The squad reported back for the first day of pre-season yesterday

MANSFIELD Town players were back in training yesterday as they prepare for the new Blue Square Premier League season.

Paul Cox's men have been installed as second favourites by the bookies after coming so close with last season's play-off semi-final defeat.

After what seemed a very short summer break, the squad assembled at the club's new Spider Park training facility in Mansfield where they were put through their paces in a very tough opening session.

The players included several trialists.

Paul Cox was today hoping to add former Stags striker Jake Speight to his squad if a deal can be agreed with Wrexham.
