VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"We worked extremely hard. We said before the game that it wasn't going to be easy. Barrow are a good side, they're still in there for a play-off place.

"To win the game was excellent but to win it how we did - by scoring seven goals - was unbelievable, the lads worked extremely hard.

"I think the whole team looked hungry. I think at this stage of the season that hunger will be a massive ingredient for us."

Barrow manager Dave Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria:

"I'm a very honest person and I'm glad it was only seven.

They've out-battled us in every department, out-passed us, out-ran us, out-fought us.

"I want to make them sit through that DVD tomorrow morning, like they made us sit through that game today.

"It is the worst game I've ever been involved in."

Savour seven-goal Barrow win but don't get carried away, says Mansfield Town boss Paul Cox

MANSFIELD Town boss told his players and supporters to savour today's sensational 7-0 demolition of Barrow at Field Mill but keep their feet on the floor.

Stags powered their way into third in the table with a Louis Briscoe hat-trick, Anthony Howell, Matt Rhead, Matt Green and Lindon Meikle adding the rest.

But Cox warned: “It is my job to keep their feet on the floor and all we've done today is win a football match. You don't get any extra points for scoring seven.

“It is easy to get carried away with today's result. I know I am sounding like Victor Meldrew again, but we have achieved nothing this season yet.

“But I am so pleased for the lads tonight and they deserve all the credit that comes their way for that result as Barrow are a very good side.

“We knew today would be a really tough game. But we the hunger and the way we went about our business today was tremendous. Just to win the game would have been good, but to score seven as well was excellent.

“We were utterly ruthless today and when we play like that we are a potent force. We did the horrible things well and won all the second balls.

“I know Louis Briscoe scored a hat-trick and is coming round the bend form-wise at the right time, But my defence kept me a clean sheet today and I don't want to pick anyone out from what was a god team performance.

“It all bodes well going into Tuesday's local derby.

“Sides that score five or six can easily take their foot off the pedal. But, out of possession we stayed hungry and got the ball back.

“I warned the players beforehand about this being possibly being an 'After the Lord Mayor's Show' after Tuesday but they rammed the words back down my throat with the performance and result and I hope they continue to do that for the rest of the season.”

Hat-trick hero Briscoe added: “We were brilliant as a team today from the off and to score seven at home in front of our fans was brilliant too.

“You don't score a hat-trick very often so you have to enjoy it when it's here.

“I think my confidence is returning and it's nice to be confident and score goals.

“This is the best position we have been in since I've been here and we have got to enjoy it.

“It has been a difficult season for me with injury suspension and not being quite right. But I am coming into my best form now and I hope I can carry it on on Tuesday and for the rest of the season.”

Angry vBarrow boss Dave Bayliss said: “To say I am bitterly disappointed is very much an understatement. It was men against boys out there today.

“I don't think I have ever witnessed a weaker performance against a very good side who tore us to shreds today.

“My players will be all in again tomorrow morning to watch the DVD and go through what I had to watch. I will dissect every throw-in, every second ball and every goal and show the players that every one of their goals could have been prevented today.

“Mansfield were exactly as we know they would be – strong and direct and they won every second ball as well as every third and fourth ball.

“To be honest losing seven-nil we've come off lightly. We're lucky the keeper saved the penalty.

“The game was gone by half-time so I told them to at least go out there and win the second half – but it obviously fell on deaf ears.

“Today was not what we are about. We are fighters with big hearts. But, bar the two young keepers, no one came out of that with any credit.

“I think some of my players looked frightened today. I think it was a bit too much for in a big stadium with a lot of fans behind Mansfield.

“Mansfield's players just wanted it more than we did. They were sharper and hungrier and want play-offs and promotions more than us.

“That's definitely the end of our play-off hopes now and if we continue to play like that until the end of the season we will be lucky to pick up another point.”

Paul Cox refuses to get carried away as Mansfield Town move up to third
Nottingham Post

PAUL Cox is refusing to accept Mansfield Town are now shoo-ins for a Blue Square Bet Premier play-off spot – and insists his players must think the same way.

The Stags roared into third place in the table with their sixth win in seven games by thumping hapless Barrow 7-0 at Field Mill on Saturday.

Louis Briscoe, notched a hat-trick and there were goals each for Anthony Howell, Lindon Meikle, Matt Green and substitute Matt Rhead.

Chairman John Radford went into the changing rooms after the game to congratulate the team, but Cox says his players can ill-afford to get carried away – especially with an important derby clash against Alfreton Town coming up tomorrow night.

"All we have done is won one football match. It doesn't matter if you win by one goal or seven, you still only get three points," he said.

"It is no good if we follow it up by going to Alfreton and losing, but it is my job is to make sure everyone gets their feet back on the ground.

"It would be easy to get swept along with the hype after this result, but until April 26 comes along, I would rather we go about our business in the right way."

Hat-trick hero Louis Briscoe sends out warning to rivals
Nottingham Post

LOUIS Briscoe bagged the second matchball of his Mansfield Town career after hitting a hat-trick in the 7-0 demolition of Barrow and then insisted: "That sends a big message of our intent to our rivals."

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/story-15558153-detail/story.html

The right-winger took his goal tally for the season to nine to mark his recall after being left out of the club's 1-1 midweek draw with Fleetwood in impressive fashion.

Briscoe started the ball rolling with a ninth-minute opener and also scored his side's second and sixth goals as the Bluebirds were put to the sword.

And the former Port Vale man believes such an emphatic scoreline has come at just the right time with eight games of the season now to go and the Stags chasing a play-off place.

"I was left out because we wanted to change the shape of the team against Fleetwood and it worked, so I had to take that on the chin," said Briscoe.

"But it was nice that the manager showed faith to bring me back for this one and nice that I could show the fans what I can do.

"I think this hat-trick was better than the one against Histon because there were only about 300 people there, no disrespect to those who were there, but this was at home in front of our support who have been terrific of late.

"We would have taken a scrappy 1-0 from this game but to come out and play so well was unbelievable from the boys.

"Everyone was on their game – and it showed. There were some great performances.

"Personally it would have been nice to score one but to score three was brilliant.

"I think this will send out a message. I think everyone knows how well we are playing now and have been since the turn of the year."

Barrow humiliation too much for seething Bayliss
http://www.nwemail.co.uk

THE Barrow AFC squad faced a Sunday morning sermon of a different kind yesterday as they were all ordered into work to suffer watching a re-run of their 7-0 humiliation at Mansfield on Saturday.

Manager Dave Bayliss could only look on aghast as his side threw in the towel, and after the game he snapped: “My players will be all in again tomorrow morning to watch the DVD and go through what I had to watch.
“I will dissect every throw-in, every second ball and every goal and show the players that every one of their goals could have been prevented today.
