Stags boss Cox to step up defender search
Nottingham Post, Tuesday, February 14, 2012 MANSFIELD Town boss Paul Cox is to intensify his search for John Dempster's replacement, – with Exodus Geohaghon still in the picture. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/Stags-boss-Cox-step-defender-search/story-15223398-detail/story.html The Stags boss will have a hole to fill at the back when Dempster returns to parent club Crawley on February 22. And Geohaghon – who Cox has made no secret of his admiration for – is soon to become available. Rules state that a player cannot sign permanently for three Football League clubs in the same season. Geohaghon has been on the books of only two in Peterborough and Barnet. But as Darlington still received parachute payments from the Football League at the start of the campaign – following relegation at the end of 2009-10 – they count as a third. As a result, the ex-Kettering man could only sign for League Two Dagenham on a three-month loan. When that expires later this month, the 6ft 5ins 26-year-old will be on the lookout for a new club. But Cox also has other targets in mind, while John Thompson is closing in on fitness after two weeks of rehabilitation at Lilleshall. "I've tried to put the wheels in motion before the loan window opened again (last Wednesday)," said Cox. "We know we are going to lose John on February 22 and we need to make sure the squad is adequately compensated." |
