Micky Mellon is understandably disappointed that the adverse weather in the Midlands has hit Saturday's game at Mansfield which has been postponed until March 13th.

The postponement delays Town's attempt to extend their current 16-game unbeaten run. Training has been restricted at the club's Lytham base.

The Fleetwood Town manager said: "Mansfield have kindly kept us up to speed with developments during the week and it was looking increasingly unlikely that the game would go ahead."

Mellon added: "We are on a great run of form and playing really well at the minute. I'm pleased about a lot of things that have been happening recently and just want us to keep playing games of football.

"The ground has been hard but, fortunately, we have the 3G pitch at Fylde Rugby Club. It is a fantastic facility which allows us to get decent training done."

With a two-week period between Town's last game, at home to Tamworth, and the Cambridge fixture on 18th February Mellon has been looking to get an extra opportunity for his players.

"We are looking to use Monday evening's reserve game against Colne as a training match with the first team players getting some action. The Highbury pitch looks as if it will be ok."

The Blue Square programme has been significantly affected and current postponements include Wrexham's game at Darlington.

A pitch inspection will take place at Field Mill at 3.15pm this afternoon to decide whether the fixture with Fleetwood Town can go ahead. Locally-based referee Russell Booth will carry out the pitch inspection for the second time in a week after he postponed last week's fixture against Darlington.
