The 19-year-old made nine starts at left-back since making the switch from the City Ground in early November 2011.

Manager Paul Cox told mansfieldtown.net: "I am hoping a deal can still be done with Forest regarding the possibility of bringing Kieron back on loan to us in the near future.

"If Kieron does stay with Forest, however, and eventually break into their first team, I would like to think we have played a big part in his development," he added

IF Keiron Freeman fails to win a first team shirt at Championships neighbours Nottingham Forest, Mansfield Town will welcome back the young defender with open arms.

Freeman produced an impressive two months on loan before electing to return to the City Ground yesterday.

Stags boss Paul Cox said: “Keiron has done very well for us and was happy to stay.

“But he feels he may be on the verge of breaking through with Forest and has seen two other players from his age group sitting on the bench at Ipswich.

“So he has decided to go back and give it a real good go at Forest. He wants to play Championship football and you can't blame the lad.

“He has got stronger and better as his loan has gone on here and probably had his best game for us at York.

“But the book has not closed on Keiron here yet and, if he doesn't get in and around the first team at Forest, he could still end up back here.”
