The 23-year-old former Hednesford front man has penned a one year deal.

He was a regular in Forest Green's line up last season in an unfamiliar position on the wing.

After signing, he told mansfieldtown.net: "It's great to be here. It's a massive club and I cannot wait to get started. Hopefully we'll get the club where it needs to be and get it promoted.

"With Paul Cox on board, I am sure he will instil a winning mentality in the lads," he added

Dyer a 'massive' signing for Stags, says boss Cox
Nottingham Post, Saturday, June 11, 2011

ROSS Dyer will be a regular goalscorer and huge threat for Mansfield Town next season, insists manager Paul Cox.

The 23-year-old became the Stags' sixth summer signing after rejecting a new deal at Forest Green Rovers.

Dyer scored only five goals in 26 starts and five substitute appearances at the New Lawn in 2010-11.

But having tracked the player since his Hednesford days, Cox is adamant that record will improve once he is employed in a central role.

"Ross is someone I have been a fan of for two years and I think it's a great signing for Mansfield," said Cox.

"He was with Tyrone Barnett (now at Macclesfield), who has been the subject of a six-figure bid from Watford – and I thought Ross was the better of the two players at the time.

"He lost his way a little last season, but he was injured and then when he came into the side he was played out of position on the wing.

"But if he is played up front he will score goals. He is something like 6ft 2ins, but he will still be one of the fastest players in our squad.

"He ticks a lot of boxes to be a quality player at this level."

Cox has confirmed he missed out on signing Matt Johnson from Rushden.

The midfielder instead joined Blue Square south club Dover, which is closer to his Essex home.

Cox said: "Location was the biggest factor in the end.

"We put a deal together, including help with relocation, which was a good one.

"But he wanted to be nearer home and I want players who are playing for us to be within a certain radius of Mansfield."

The 20-year-old Rushden & Diamonds midfielder had looked set to join Blue Square rivals Mansfield, but agreed to move on a one year deal, and joins former team-mate Shane Huke at Crabble .

Boss Martin Hayes (pictured) said: "Matt was talking to Mansfield but things didn't pan out for him there and I am pleased to get him.

"He is big, strong, and a box-to box player.

"He is young, versatile, suits the way we play and wants to get back in the Conference (Blue Square Premier).

"It shows we are chasing the right calibre of player from clubs above, and it's not working out anymore expensive than the players who are leaving."
