VAUGHAN HANDED STAGS LOAN MOVE
Evening Post, 25 October 2002

Forest's forgotten man Tony Vaughan is set to revive his career at Mansfield Town.

The out-of-favour centre half has joined Stuart Watkiss' side on a month's loan, in a bid to earn himself a move away from the City Ground.

It is unlikely the move to Field Mill, which will see him eligible to play in the Stags trip to Swindon tomorrow, will turn into a permanent switch.

But the 27-year-old is hoping to put himself in the shop window at Field Mill.

The former Ipswich, Manchester City and Cardiff player, who joined Forest for £350,000 in February 2000, has not even been able to force a regular place in the reserves this season.

His last first-team appearance came in the 2-1 defeat at home to Millwall in February, but he has largely been frozen out under Paul Hart.

He ended last season on loan at Third Division Scunthorpe.

"Things have not been going well for me at the City Ground in recent times," he admitted. "I have not been able to force my way into first-team contention.

"Perhaps this is an opportunity for me to revive my career, to earn myself a fresh start somewhere else."

The move will obviously benefit Stags, who's defensive frailty has been one of their biggest fall-backs this season.

Found himself in danger of becoming a forgotten man last season as he struggled to command a place in Paul Hart's plans.

In fact, he made just six starts – and three appearances as a substitute – and ended the season on loan with Third Division Scunthorpe United.

He still feels he has a great deal to offer Forest and is determined to force his way back into the manager's reckoning.

He started his career with Ipswich Town and soon did enough to clinch a £1million move to his home-town club Manchester City.
