Graham Westley column
Non League Paper, 30 May 2010 Graham Westley, Stevenage Manager DEAN CAN WIN THIS FAMILY BATTLE Next year sees an intriguing family battle in the BSP as the brothers Holdsworth fight it out. My experience of either is limited but I cannot ignore the prospect. It is impossible to ignore David as he continuously entertains at Mansfield in true Mourinho style. He gave me some fun moments as I contemplated the psychology he was looking to build at his club. Dean is a different proposition. Less "out there". Very focused and a deep and detailed thinker. He is the one manger to have rung me since the season ended and asked for any helpful hints. I did the same with several League 2 managers. I thought it might help and it did. Picking the brains of people like Paul Fairclough, Gary Waddock and Mickey Adams was a big help. it is a credit to their profession they were kind enough to assist. After County's wonderful promotion and hearing Dean's outlook, I think Newport could be a genuine top ten challenger and maybe even an outsider for fifth. I see them getting stronger as the season goes on. I even think he could pip David, although Mansfield's full time status may just keep the family honours. I will certainly be looking in when the two play each other. It has opening day written all over it! |
