Mansfield Town's Blue Square Premier home match against promotion-chasing Luton Town has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The game was set to be played tonight at 7.45pm

Local Football League referee Russell Booth came to inspect the playing surface this morning and deemed it unplayable.

Mr Booth explained to mansfieldtown.net: "The standing water comes above your boots as you enter the field of play.

"Rain is forecast all day and the pitch will not improve in time for tonight's match.

"It is only fair on Luton Town to make a decision this early, as they are set to depart at 9.30am," he added.

A disappointed Stags boss David Holdsworth told CHAD.co.uk: "We are obviously disappointed that the match has been called off as it was eagerly anticipated.

"However, the pitch has been deemed dangerous to play on so we will have to wait another day to play Luton Town."

David Holdsworth told the Evening Post it was the right decision to postpone the game.
"I was there at 8am and it was understandable why the game didn't go ahead. But you just have to deal with that because the safety of the players is the most important thing."
Kyle Perry (thigh) and Jake Speight (knee) are likely to be out for up to three weeks.
