Players must deliver - Wilson
http://www.eastbourneherald.co.uk
16 October 2009 , By Derren Howard
Eastbourne Borough players will go into the game against Mansfield Town tomorrow with a stark warning from boss Garry Wilson ringing in their ears.
Wilson is starting to lose patience with his under-performing players, who have won just once in their last eight Blue Square Premier fixtures.

Wilson warned of changes after a poor display in the 3-0 defeat at Gateshead on Saturday and the playerADVERTISEMENTs will know they have plenty to prove against high-flying Mansfield at Priory Lane.

Wilson, who was recovering from an operation on his foot this week, said, "The players know they have to produce results and it is up to us to do all we can. We made changes to the side this season and sometimes that affects consistency.

"But we need results to change. We are constantly monitoring the squad and our performances and we have to come up with the right formula. No-one likes being on a losing run but we had a good training session on Tuesday and the spirit in the side is still good."

Mansfield are pushing hard for a return to the Football League. The Stags are currently in the play-off frame in fourth, with 29 points from 16 matches. They are the only side so far to have inflicted defeat on leaders Oxford United. Encouragingly for Wilson's men, though, it's on the road where the Stags have stuttered with only seven points from seven matches.

The Boro boss added, "Mansfield are a very strong side and we know we are going to have to play very well. They are organised and play with two big strikers up front.

"We know they will look at our last few results and fancy their chances but if we play well and improve our play in both penalty areas then there is no reason why we can't get a result."

Skipper Paul Armstrong and defender Marc Pullan are expected to return to the side. Danny Brown is set to play despite an ongoing lower back problem.

Winger Dobson joins Stags
CHAD.co.uk, 17 October 2009 , By Tim Morriss
MANSFIELD Town manager David Holdsworth ended another busy week adjusting his squad by signing winger Craig Dobson on Friday.

http://www.chad.co.uk/stags/Winger-Dobson-joins-Stags.5742731.jp

Dobson (25) was without a club, following a spell of 15 goals from 53 starts for Stevenage over the past three years - and has signed a three-month deal for the Stags.

He has gone straight into the squad for Saturday's match at Eastbourne, as cover for Louis Briscoe who it was revealed just before kick-off suffered a knee injury slipping downstairs at home.

The winger started his career at Crystal Palace and has also been at Cambridge City, MK Dons, Cheltenham and Barnet.

Earlier on Friday, striker Daryl Clare completed his loan switch to Gateshead, as reported at Chad.co.uk on Thursday evening.

In a busy week at the Mill, former loan midfielder Oliver Hotchkiss has returned for a second spell from Leeds United, while ex-QPR midfielder Richard Langley is the third triallist currently at the club.

Stags boss seeks hat-trick of wins on south coast
Evening Post, October 16, 2009

MANSFIELD Town boss David Holdsworth has urged Mansfield to keep up their recent momentum with victory at Eastbourne Borough tomorrow.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/football/Stags-boss-seeks-hat-trick-wins-south-coast/article-1424401-detail/article.html?

The Stags have won their last two games and four out of their last five.
It has helped them to fourth place in the Blue Square Premier after 16 games.
Holdsworth knows securing a fourth away success of the season at Priory Lane will not be easy.
But after winning 2-1 on the south coast last season, he is hoping for another three points against an Eastbourne side who lost 3-0 at Gateshead last weekend.
"I have a lot of admiration for Eastbourne's achievements. It's a very good club and never an easy place to go," said Holdsworth.
"The conditions could be interesting with the rain, although I'm not sure what the weather is looking like down there on the coast.
"We were successful there last year and I believe we have a stronger squad now – and that is reflected where we are in the table.
"It is going to be a tough game and we will have to roll our sleeves up because they have some good strong players and a high work ethic.
"They have had a little spell where things have not gone as well as they would have liked and we have to try to capitalise on that.
"We have an interesting cup game coming up (against Altrincham), but first and foremost we have to concentrate on this game.
"I am pleased with the return of four wins in five matches and everyone is on the up.
"If we come back with something from Eastbourne then it will be better than a stick of rock."

Holdsworth: 'It's time to up the ante.'
CHAD.co.uk, 15 October 2009, By Stephen Thirkill

STAGS boss David Holdsworth is calling on his troops to step it up a level ahead of this weekend's long away trip to Eastbourne Borough.

http://www.chad.co.uk/stags/Holdsworth-39It39s-time-to-up.5738613.jp?

Mansfield travel to the south coast in confident fashion having won their last two games against Forest Green Rovers and Altrincham.

But Stags will be without midfielder Kyle Nix, who injured his ankle in a training fall, as they look to chalk up their fourth win of the season and close the gap on leaders Oxford.

Said boss David Holdsworth: "It is time to push on now and I want the players to recognise that.

"We have done well so far and now we have to up the ante and start to push on again.

"I believe we can do that. This is a big period for us where we can get vital points and we have to maintain our standards.

"I will continue to bring in quality players when I can do so. I dont want the players just thinking they are here for an easy ride."

Despite Mansfield's recent good form, which has seen them lose just one of their last five games, Holdsworth is expecting a tough challenge for his Stags side.

"I have full admiration for Eastbourne and what the manager and board has achieved,"added Holdsworth.

"It is a good club with good players and is never an easy place to go. We won there last year and we have a stronger squad this season than last.

"Eastbourne have good players with a high work ethic and we will have to go there and roll up our sleeves."

Stags' Nix out of Eastbourne clash
Evening Post, October 15, 2009

KYLE Nix is out of Saturday's trip to Eastbourne after turning his ankle in training.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/football/Stags-Nix-Eastbourne-clash/article-1424147-detail/article.html?

The midfielder missed last Saturday's game at Altrincham through illness but was hoping to be in contention at Priory Lane.
Luke Graham is now not well and is rated 50-50, but fellow central defender Luke Jones is hoping to come through a practice game today.
Craig Armstrong (hamstring) is working his way back to fitness and should be in contention, while Kyle Perry has shaken off his illness.
But the loss of Nix is a blow to boss David Holdsworth, who said: "Kyle has gone over in a divot and the swelling on his left ankle is severe.
"We are not sure how long he will be out for at this point, but he won't travel to Eastbourne."

Clare signs Gateshead loan deal
BBC.co.uk, October 16, 2009
Gateshead have signed striker Daryl Clare on a three-month loan deal from Mansfield Town.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/mansfield_town/8310272.stm?

The 33-year-old has joined Mansfield's Blue Square Premier rivals in an attempt to boost his match fitness.

Stags manager David Holdsworth told BBC Radio Nottingham: "The emergence of our strike force that's contributed so well so far has hindered Daryl's chances.

"I am a big admirer of Daryl as a man and a player and I understand his reasons for taking this opportunity."

Clare has started just three times for Mansfield this season, appearing nine times from the substitutes bench.

The striker is not cup-tied, but will not be allowed to play against the Stags should the sides been drawn against each other in any cup competition.

"He will certainly be welcome back with us and I hope that's for a promotion push," added Holdsworth.

Meanwhile, Mansfield have taken the former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Richard Langley on trial. The 29-year-old Jamaican international has most recently been training with Blackpool

Stags striker loaned out to Gateshead
Evening Post, October 16, 2009
MANSFIELD Town striker Daryl Clare has been allowed to join Blue Square Premier rivals Gateshead on a three-month loan.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/football/Stags-striker-loaned-Gateshead/article-1427067-detail/article.html?

But boss David Holdsworth insists it is not the end of the line at Field Mill for the proven goal-getter.
Clare joined the Stags from Rushden in a blaze of publicity towards the end of last season and big things were expected of him.
But he has struggled to break into the side on a regular basis this term because of the from of Kyle Perry and Rob Duffy.
The 31-year-old has also seen his opportunities hampered by injuries and illness.
Clare's only two goals this season have come from the penalty spot in August's 4-1 home win over Barrow.
Heed will pay the 'majority' of the player's wages during his stay on Tyneside.
But Holdsworth is hoping to welcome back a firing Clare into his Mansfield squad in the New Year.
"We have had a lot of approaches for Daryl and it was no secret that King's Lynn were interested," said Holdsworth. "That's because Daryl has a firm reputation as a goalscorer."
"He has come to me and said he feels he needs a good strong run of games and I can't guarantee him that.
"Gateshead have come in and I have allowed him to go for three months, although obviously he can't play against us (in December).
"Daryl feels he needs a change and a fresh start. I feel he has been unlucky with things here on and off the pitch.
"Three of four times he has been down to start but then had injury or illness – in fact he turned his ankle when he was due to play against Forest Green.
"The way the strike force we have in place have contributed has limited his chances but he has been good for the club in many respects and I still rate him highly.
"We will certainly welcome him back when he returns, and hopefully that will be for a promotion push."
Holdsworth is confident that Mansfield will still have plenty of firepower without Clare.
He added: "When Daryl first came here we were short on goals but there is a different fabric to the squad now with five or six players who can score.
""I would still like us to contribute more from midfield and wide areas – I want everyone to play their part in scoring goals.
"But with or without Daryl Clare, I think we will continue to score goals."

Stags loan striker Clare to Gateshead
CHAD.co.uk, 15 October 2009, By Stephen Thirkill

STAGS striker Daryl Clare has been loaned out to fellow Blue Square Premier Division side Gateshead for three months, according to the north east club.

http://www.chad.co.uk/stags/Stags-loan-striker-Clare-to.5737713.jp?

The news was revealed on Gateshead's official club website on Thursday evening, although it is believed the paperwork was not due to be finished until Friday.

Clare joined Mansfield Town during the January transfer window last season from Rushden and Diamonds but has so far failed to capture the sparkling goal form of his earlier career.

The hit-man, who won the Conference title with Boston in 2002 annd Chester in 2004, has made just three starts and nine substitute appearances this season scoring two goals.

Stags manager David Holdsworth said on Thursday ahead of the expected deal: "He has had a number of opportunities because of his reputation.

"He feels he needs a run of games and Gateshead have come in for him. We will allow him to go out on loan for three months, but Daryl will not be allowed to play against us.

"He feels he needs a fresh start and a new challenge. Daryl has been unlucky with things on and off the pitch.

"There have been three or four games where he was due to start, but he suffered an injury or illness in the buld up.

"The emergence of our strikeforce of Perry and Duffy has limited his chances in the first team.

"I respect Daryl as a man and a player and I understand why he has taken this decision."

As part of the deal ambitious Gateshead, who this week announced plans to become a full-time club, will make a contribution to Clare's wages.

"Clare is a proven striker at Conference level and his goalscoring exploits are second to none," said Gateshead manager Ian Bogie, who also revealed that Clare will figure in Gateshead's FA Cup tie in 10 days time.

"He has two Conference winners medals, with Boston United and Chester City, and has been the league's leading scorer twice.

"We needed to add some firepower to the attack and hopefully Clare will provide this, and that the loan deal is beneficial to both parties."

During his career Clare has won the Conference golden boot title on two occasions.

Hotchkiss returns to Stags on loan
CHAD.co.uk, 15 October 2009, By Stephen Thirkill
STAGS have today re-signed Leeds United midfielder Oliver Hotchkiss on a three month loan deal.

http://www.chad.co.uk/stags/Hotchkiss-returns-to-Stags-on.5736974.jp?

The move follows a successful loan spell for the player at Field Mill last season and helps plug a gap in midfield after Kyle Nix was this week injured in training.

Stags boss David Holdsworth has long been known to be a big admirer of the promising midfielder.

Said Holdsworth: "I will always bring Hotchkiss in because he is a very good footballer.

"We have lost Kyle Nix in training after he turned an ankle on a divot. Oliver Hotchkiss is a player I admire and he will benefit the club.

"I am very grateful for Leeds and it is a great compliment to our club that we have got a player from Leeds.

"He plays football with a smile on his face and will give us some creativity."

Hotchkiss back at Mansfield
Evening Post, October 15, 2009

OLLIE Hotchkiss today returned to Mansfield Town after agreeing a three-month loan switch from Leeds United.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/football/Hotchkiss-Mansfield/article-1424790-detail/article.html?

The talented 20-year-old midfielder is well known to Stags fans having spent a successful temporary spell at the club at the end of last season.
Both Holdsworth and Hotchkiss said at the time they would like to see the arrangement repeated at some point in the future.
And with Kyle Nix suffering from an ankle injury, now is seen as the ideal time.
"I have always been keen to bring Ollie back and the fans will recognise what a good, young footballer he is from what they saw last season," said Holdsworth.
"I have had this on the back burner for a while and was keen to do it whether Kyle was available or not.
"I feel Ollie will benefit this club and we are grateful to Leeds United for the help they have given us.
"You have to try to know your next move and I'm delighted he's here and, similarly, he's happy to be here.
"Players don't mind coming here from bigger clubs because they know they will be treated right.
"He has the chance to play games and he knows that the expectations are just as high as at Leeds.
"I want him to come and improve the side and the squad."
Hotchkiss goes straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to Eastbourne.

Hotchkiss delighted to be back at Field Mill
Evening Post, October 16, 2009

OLLIE Hotchkiss is delighted to be back at Mansfield Town – and is determined to impress during a three-month loan from Leeds United.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/football/Hotchkiss-delighted-Field/article-1424867-detail/article.html?

The 20-year-old central midfielder first played for the Stags at the tail end of last season, winning over the Field Mill faithful with his range of passing and wholehearted approach.
After the final game of the 2008-2009 campaign – a 2-1 win over Stevenage Borough – Hotchkiss spoke of his disappointment that his time with Mansfield was coming to an end just when he was getting started.
So he is thrilled to be back in north Notts for a longer stint during which he hopes to strike a rich vein of form.
Hotchkiss believes the fact he has already sampled life in the Blue Square Premier will help his cause greatly, even if much of the club's playing staff has changed.
"It's great to be back. It's a massive club and the gaffer didn't even have to sell it to me after last time. I said 'yes' straight away, " said Hotchkiss.
"I really enjoyed my time here last season and I know what to expect, which is going to help me settle in a lot quicker.
"A lot of players have changed but I have already spoken to the ones I know and they will help me get back into the group.
"There is going to be a fight for places because there are some good midfielders here.
"But I will be positive and hard-working and hopefully show the manager I warrant a place in the side. When I do get in I have to show I deserve to stay there."
Hotchkiss has spent much of the season so far recovering from a hernia and groin operation.
The problem was diagnosed not long after his return to Elland Road from Mansfield in the summer.
He said: "I'm just glad to be back and playing football after a frustrating time.
"I had the surgery about a month-and-a-half ago and it has been hard sitting on the sidelines.
"But I am back now and I'm just glad the problem's been sorted and it's out of the way."
Hotchkiss' arrival is a timely one as far as boss David Holdsworth is concerned because of an ankle injury to Kyle Nix.
But the move has been on the cards for some time.
"You have to try to know your next move and I'm delighted he's here.
"Players don't mind coming here from bigger clubs because they know they will be treated right.
"He has the chance to play games and he knows that the expectations are just as high as at Leeds."
Hotchkiss goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's trip to Eastbourne and has been made available by Leeds for all Mansfield's FA Cup and FA Trophy matches.
Another new face at Field Mill, on trial, is former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Richard Langley.
The 29-year-old started his career at Loftus Road and made almost 150 appearances for the London club.
He left them to join Cardiff City in a £200,000 deal in August 2003 but rejoined QPR after two years with the Bluebirds.
The former Jamaican international has also played for Luton Town and was on trial at League One MK Dons last week.
"Richard has a very good pedigree but is coming back from a cruciate knee ligament injury and so is out of contract," said Holdsworth.
"By bringing in him here on trial it gives me a little bit of competition.
"It's time we upped the ante and try to push on and it's important the players recognise that. We have done well so far, but we could still do a little bit better."
Young defender Ben Turner has signed on a month's loan for North Ferriby United.
Holdsworth said: "It gives Ben an opportunity to get men's football under his belt and I am sure he will acquit himself in a befitting fashion.
"Ben played a numerous amount of games in our reserves last year and it is imperative that players like him rise to the challenge of these physical leagues."

Stags captain vows to improve his game
CHAD.co.uk, 15 October 2009, By Stephen Thirkill
MANSFIELD Town captain Gary Mills believes he has much more to offer following his stop start season.

http://www.chad.co.uk/stags/Stags-captain-vows-to-improve.5738879.jp?

The Stags skipper has started just seven of the club's 16 league fixtures this season after injury and the suspension following his red card away to Rushden and Diamonds.

But the assured midfielder says he is determined to pick up his game and fully show the Stags fans what he has to offer.

"We are happy with our start to the season, but we have more to come as a team and I have more to come as a player,"he said.

"It has been a bit of a stop start season for me and I want to get a good run in the team now. The more games I play the stronger I will get."

And the former Rushden midfielder also believes Stags have got more to offer following their impressive start to the Blue Square Premier campaign.

Added Mills: "We are always working hard to find the magic formation and I thought the new 4-3-3 worked well against Altrincham.

"We have got a good group of players here and have got good results under our belt against Oxford and Crawley, which we need to continue with.

"Eastbourne wont be a pretty game, we will go there to battle and to roll our sleeves up. We are going there to win and to keep our good run going."

Stags currently sit fourth in the Blue Square Premier table and could move as high as second spot in the division with three points on Saturday.

Stags' Turner loaned out
Evening Post, October 15, 2009

YOUNG Mansfield defender Ben Turner has been sent out on a month's loan to Unibond Premier outfit North Ferriby United.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/football/Stags-Turner-loaned/article-1424672-detail/article.html?

The 18-year-old has found first team chances hard to come by since signing as a 'pro' in the summer.
Stags manager David Holdsworth said: "Ben is a promising young player and this opportunity will suit both North Ferriby and ourselves.
"It gives Ben an opportunity to get men's football under his belt and I am sure he will acquit himself in a befitting fashion.
"Ben played a numerous amount of games in our reserves last year and it is imperative that players like Ben rise to the challenge of these physical leagues."

Stags hand trial to ex-QPR player
EVENING POST, October 15, 2009

FORMER Queens Park Rangers midfielder Richard Langley is on trial at Mansfield Town, it was revealed today.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/football/Stags-hand-trial-ex-QPR-player/article-1423967-detail/article.html?

The 29-year-old started his career at Loftus Road and made almost 150 appearances for the London club in just under seven years, between 1996 and 2003.
He left them to join Cardiff City in a £200,000 deal in August 2003 but rejoined QPR after two years with the Bluebirds.
He has also played for Luton Town.

Stags' Briscoe striving for consistency
Evening Post, October 15, 2009

LOUIS Briscoe is determined to recapture his best form after making a scoring return to the Mansfield Town side at Altrincham.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/football/Stags-Briscoe-striving-consistency/article-1420472-detail/article.html?

The winger-cum-forward had cut a frustrated figure in the Stags' previous away game at Barrow, kicking a water bottle as he left the pitch on being substituted in a 3-1 defeat.
But after being left out of the side in the 1-0 home win over Forest Green, the former Ilkeston man played a key part in Mansfield's 2-1 success at Moss Lane.
Briscoe knows he needs to be at his peak more often and hopes to build on his display – starting at Eastbourne this weekend.
"I had a couple of weeks to think about the game at Barrow where I was poor" he admitted.
"But I have had a couple of good weeks on the training ground and the gaffer has sat me down and we have had a chat about certain things.
"I have managed to get myself back in the team and I hope I repaid him with my goal and a better display against Altrincham.
"I think consistency is the key, not just for me, but players in this league generally.
"If I can get that consistency then I am going to improve the team and contribute more."
Briscoe's goal at Altrincham – the match-winner – was his first in seven games.
He said: "It was about time I scored, so I really enjoyed it.
"I was delighted for the fans because there seemed more of them for us than Altrincham and they stayed with us right through, even though we were nervy near the end.
"Now we have a full week of training with no midweek game ahead of Eastbourne.
"That was one of my first games for the club down there last season when we won 2-1 and hopefully we can repeat that result."
