The Saddlers included ex-England international Michael Ricketts and he was, unsurprisingly, a threat throughout against a young Stags team whinch included two trialists.

Ricketts set up the visitors' first goal for Will Gribb, his shot deflected in off Gavin Hurren, playing at centre-half. On 21, Walsall doubled their lead through Alex Nicolls.

Stags pulled a goal back on 41, Ryan Goward's cross along the face of goal bundled home by a Walsall defender.

Stags were level with a little under a minute played in the second half. A weak back pass from Mark Bradley allowed Anthony Robinson to latch onto the ball, and he finished through the legs of the goalkeeper.

Walsall regained their lead on 75. Michael Ricketts put Will Gribb in the clear and he slotted past Luke Herriott, who had replaced Ross Atkins at half time.

The visitors were down to 10 men with a little over 10 minutes to go. Mark Bradley was the last man as he pulled down Anthony Robinson 20 yards from goal.

MANSFIELD TOWN: Atkins, Allsopp, Kay, Burrell, Hurren, McCormick, McGhee, Shaw, Robinson, Trimmer, Goward. Used subs: Herriott (GK), Naylor

The former Sheffield Wednesday trainee played at left-back as part of a young Stags side who gave a good account of themselves at Field Mill.
It was the Saddlers who took the lead when former England player Michael Ricketts centred for Will Gibb, whose shot deflected in of Gavin Hurren.
The visitors doubled their lead midway through the first half when Alex Nicolls fired home from inside the area.
Just before half-time, Mansfield pulled a goal back when Ryan Goward's left-wing cross was turned into his own goal by a Walsall defender.
Almost straight after the interval, Anthony Robinson levelled for the Stags when he shot through the legs of the Walsall goalkeeper.
But Walsall went back in front when Gibb slotted past substitute goalkeeper Luke Herriott after being put in by Ricketts.
Robinson was denied the chance of a leveller in the closing stages as he was fouled by last man Mark Bradley, who was duly shown the red card.
