County swoop to sign Mansfield right back

Wednesday 18 Jun 2008, HattersMatters.co.uk

County have strengthened their defence ahead of the new season by signing Mansfield Town defender Johnny Mullins on a free transfer.

Mullins was offered a new deal to stay with the Stags next season but he opted to reject that new contract as he wanted to continue his career in the Football League. Mansfield finished 23rd in League Two last season and will now be plying their trade in the Blue Square Premier next season which prompted the former Reading youngster to leave the Stags.
Johnny, last seasons player of the season at Field Mill, has joined County on a two year deal and will challenge Jamie Smith for a place in the starting line up subject to Smith agreeing terms on a new 12-month contract.

With Johnny being under 24-years-old, County will have to pay Mansfield compensation to sign the player despite him being out of contract. Mullins will join County on 1st July as his contract with the Stags ends at the end of this month

CHAD reports: An agreement was reached this afternoon for his sale - the price will be decided at a tribunal.
