Grantham Town 1 - 1 Mansfield Town youth
Trimmer. 2nd August 2007 Attendance: approx 150 (approx 50 from Mansfield) Stagsnet report by Gordon Cleugh It is a long while since I have visited a ground when the turnstiles have not been open when I arrived but it happened tonight when I arrived at Grantham just before 7pm. The Kesteven Stadium doubles up as an athletics track. Although it is set quite a way from the pitch, the main stand is a reasonable height and gives a good view. There is a small covered section of terracing on the far side but nothing behind either of the goals. The Stags put out a mainly U18 side but including Spanish triallist Adrian Torent, and the starting line up for was Gibbons, Wood, Kitchen, Torent, Turner, Deas, Burrell, McGhee, Garwood, Trimmer, Grimoldby Grantham fielded a much more experienced side and settled the better. They should have taken the lead after about 20 minutes when a shot was blasted over the bar from 6 yards out. Grantham took the lead just past the half hour mark. The ball was played on the right hand side and Gibbons came to the edge of the box but lost the race to the ball. The ball was lobbed towards the goal and it looked as if Turner had enough time and space to clear the ball but it somehow managed to find the back of the net. Trimmer had a good shot a few minutes later from about 12 yards which skimmed the crossbar. Grantham made 4 substitutions at half time and Stags made the brighter start to the 2nd half. The equaliser came in the 65th minute when a cross from the left from Grimoldby found Trimmer unmarked in the area and he directed the ball past the keeper. Trimmer and Garwood were substituted shortly after the goal. Stags had a couple of good chances late on and it seemed easier to score than miss with one of the chances. |
