FORMER Stags winger Liam Lawrence has been cleared by police after rape allegations against him were dropped yesterday.
The twenty-five-year-old –– who played for Mansfield Town FC from 1999-2004 –– had been accused along with Tottenham goalkeeper Ben Alnwick of raping an 18-year-old woman at a Sunderland home 18 months ago.

But police have now confirmed that no further action will be taken against the pair, and charges were yesterday officially dropped.

Lawrence –– who now plays for Stoke City –– scored 40 goals during his 130 league and cup games with Stags and helped them to earn promotion from League Two in the 2001-2 season.
