Morecambe gained promotion to the Football League for the first time, with a 2-1 win over Exeter City at the magnificent new Wembley Stadium this afternoon.
by Martin Shaw Exeter were superb in the opening 10 minutes, taking the lead and nearly scoring another. But after that Morecambe were generally the better side, and after the Exeter keeper made a superb double save from a Morecamble penalty, the Shrimps equalised after a defensive error on 42 minutes, and then scored the deserved winner 8 minutes from time with a brilliant strike from Danny Carlton.
