STAGS HOPE TO LIFT LIMIT AT FIELD MILL

STAGS HOPE TO LIFT LIMIT AT FIELD MILL
Evening Post, 17 May 2007

Mansfield chairman James Derry today admitted his worry at Field Mill's capacity being slashed by half, but insists he is doing everything to find a quick solution.

Concerns over crowd control in the Stags' final home game of the season against Barnet prompted the county council to cut the maximum home crowd to 4,600.

Angry fans complained after watching fellow supporters, invading the pitch to celebrate the team's League Two survival, fall victim to what Derry concedes was overly-physical stewarding.

But he says he is taking action to address the issue.

If capacity is not increased before the new season, they will be unable to start their campaign. Football League rules state a club's ground must hold at least 5,000 supporters to host a fixture. The club is due to meet the council on June 5.
