Team Mansfield appeals for 'openness'
CHAD, 16 May 2007

A MANSFIELD Town Football Club supporters' group has welcomed news the Stags Community Trust has acted to protect its assets.
But Team Mansfield is still calling for 'openness and transparency' from the trust, especially in connection with its relationship with the club, Keith Haslam and the town's MP Alan Meale.

After an investigation by the Charity Commission, it was announced that new controls would be instigated by the trustees to protect the trust's assets, beneficiaries and reputation.

A Team Mansfield spokesman welcomed the news, but added: “It is sad that it has taken an investigation for the trustees to act positively, which again has highlighted some potentially poor corporate governance surrounding an organisation led by Mr Haslam and Mr Meale.

“A letter from the Charity Commission explained that the trustees have also taken steps to seek additional trustees with no connection to the club.

“Team Mansfield looks forward to the trustees inviting nominations from the community Stags Community Trust purports to represent and support.

“We are also concerned that accounts to June 2006 for the charity remain unpublished. The charity appears to be dormant and the sole employee of the charity is still owed money.”
