CHAD website,10 May 2007

STAGS have landed another excellent home pre-season friendly with the news that Championship neighbours Leicester City will visit Field Mill on Friday, 20th July (7pm).
Derby County have already been confirmed for 28th July and Huddersfield Town for 4th August and manager Billy Dearden said: "That's three good games for us now which we are very pleased with.

"Now we just have to sort out two or three away games and, hopefully, a pre-season training camp."

A mixed side of first teamers and youngsters will play at Matlock Town on 6th August (7.45pm) and at Belper Town on 23rd July (7.30pm).

J-B PONDERS 3-YEAR STAGS DEAL
Evening Post, 11 May 2007

Billy Dearden has offered Alex John-Baptiste one of the best contracts in Mansfield Town history.

The Stags boss is keen to keep the central defender at Field Mill after a season when he has been one of the most consistent performers.

John-Baptiste's deal runs out this summer and he is considering his options.

Dearden insists he is doing his best to persuade the 21-year-old to put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

"He's been offered a very good contract and he has earned it," said Dearden.

"It is the same with anyone who comes through the juniors. If they play well they will get the rewards."

Should John-Baptiste decide to leave, Stags will receive compensation as he is under 24.

But Dearden says there has been no firm offer for him.
