Stags still hoping on star defender
CHAD website, 10 May 2007

STAGS boss Billy Dearden has not given up hope of keeping star defender Alex John-Baptiste next season.
With the youngster's contract up, speculation over his future is inevitably high.

But Dearden confirmed John-Baptiste had been offered one of the best deals ever offered to a player coming through the club ranks - a three year contract - and he is hoping he will sign it.

"We are certainly not trying to throw Alex through the door," he said.
"Towards the end of the season he was playing better than he has for a long time and really come out of himself and been a leader.

"We were relying on him in the back four.

"So far no one has been on the phone to me about him which is good news for us.

"With holidays coming up it would be nice to get something sorted in the next couple of weeks.

"Alex has come through our junior ranks and done well. Now he deserves to be rewarded.

"We are not trying to keep him on the cheap. He is being offered good money to stay here.

"It is an incentive to the rest of the young playes here too. If they carry on doing well then hopefuly one or one other contracts may be ripped up and they will be offered better money. But they have to prove themselves first."

Coke on course for return
CHAD website, 10 May 2007

GILES Coke remains on course to recover from his knee ligament injury in time for pre-season training.
The Stags midfielder, out since mid-January, has just completed a two-week stay at Lilleshall National Rehabilitation Centre and manager Billy Dearden said: "Giles is improving a lot and just needs to stregthen his leg up.

"We are very hopeful he may be ready to join in pre-season training with us.

"Matt Hamshaw, Jake Buxton, Gareth Jelleyman and Jon D'Laryea are all doing well too and we should have them all fit for pre-season which will be a big boost for everyone."
