POSSIBLE BUYER FOR STAGS IS LOCAL
Evening Post, 29 March 2007

Mansfield Town have received a fresh inquiry about buying the club, chairman James Derry confirmed today.

Owner and chief executive Keith Haslam stepped up his attempts to sell the club last week by advertising in the national media.

Within 24 hours Andy Perry - the only potential investor at that point - withdrew his take-over interest.

But now a possible new bidder has stepped forward.

"A tentative approach has been made to the club and we will be meeting with the prospective purchaser," Derry told the Evening Post. "That meeting is likely to take place next week.

"It is a local source, so it hasn't come as a direct result of advertising nationally, but it may be because we have made it clear the club is for sale that this potential purchaser has come forward.

"It has always been the hope that it would be someone local, so that aspect is pleasing.

A report earlier this week suggested that the club was valued by Haslam at £1.5m, not including the ground. Derry said that figure was 'inaccurate' but refused to reveal the correct asking price.
