RETURN FOR RESERVES SIDE?

Reserves return for Mansfield?
CHAD website, 29 March 2007

RESTORING a reserve side to Field Mill will be one of the priorities of Billy Dearden and assistant Paul Holland if they are in charge next season.
The Mansfield Town reserve side was axed by Keith Curle due to a small squad meaning a very young side was getting hammered too often.

But Stags have found this season that it is hard to keep players match fit to come into the first team, despite the occasional reserve friendly.

"Fringe players like Danny Sleath and Chris Wood need to be playing regularly," said Holland.

"We brought young Danny in last week and he has only played 10 or 11 games against men before and it is a big step up.

"We have go to bridge that gap like we did for players like Jake Buxton and Alex John-Baptiste when first and second year YTs got far more men's football.

"We have spoken to Dave Jervis and Ivan Hollett and they have a good bunch coming through. The next step will be to speak to the chairman and see if it is feasible.

"We believe it would be of massive benefit to the club.
"The results are not the biggest thing, it is all about getting minutes on the park.

"The reserves league is a decent standard against sides from our level or higher.

"We are always out looking at players but these games would also give us chance to have a closer look at players we were playing against.

"It gives players who were on the bench on a Saturday a chance to play as well as bringing youngsters through."
