DAVID STONE STORY INCORRECT
15th March 2007 14:29

APOLOGIES!
http://www.nonleaguedaily.com, 15/03/2007

On Tuesday I carried a news item regarding David Stone's apparent end-of-season transfer ffrom British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division club Rugby Town to Coca-Cola League Two side Mansfield Town.

This was a news items emailed direct to me.

However, it is, in fact, incorrect and was the work apparently of a group of people who have a grudge against the current officials and management at Butlin Road.

Rugby manager Billy Jeffrey is an old friend of mine and phoned me to say it was incorrect and that the story caused some hilarity amongst his players at training on Tuesday night!

On a more serious note, whilst I take as much care as possible in ensuring news items appearing on nonleaguedaily are legitimate, I cannot check them all out - otherwise we would only have about three news items appearing daily!

The news of David Stone's 'transfer' did, of course, subsequently appear on several other websites of which I have no control over.

STONE SET FOR MANSFIELD
http://www.nonleaguedaily.com, 13/03/2007

On-form striker David Stone is set to leave British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division club Rugby Town by the end of the season to pursue a role with Coca-Cola League Two outfit, Mansfield Town.

Stone (pictured) top scored in his first season with the club, averaging nearly a goal every two games after he was one of Billy Jeffrey's first signings.

Stone joined from Eagle Bitter United Counties League side Daventry Town where Jeffrey had kept a close eye on him before bringing him to Butlin Road where he impressed immediately with his lightning pace and goalscoring ability.

Such was his impact, he won the managers' player of the year award in his first season with the club.

Twenty-one-year old Stone said: "I'm enjoying my football at the moment and I hope to be a real asset at Mansfield. I've always dreamed of league football."

Rugby propose to 'clear out' the squad and recruit more youngsters ready for the 2007/08 season, providing premier division status is secured in the Southern League this season.
