PERRY HAS ONE WEEK TO BID FOR MANSFIELD
Evening Post, 01 March 2007

Andy Perry has been handed a seven-day deadline to put in a firm bid for Mansfield Town - or forget it.

The club's shirt sponsor has made no secret of his desire to take over the running of affairs at Field Mill.

Owner Keith Haslam has indicated he would be prepared to step down if a realistic buyer came forward.

But though Perry has been in talks with the club about making an offer, the club insist they have yet to receive one.

Now chairman James Derry feels the time has come for things to be resolved.

"We have decided that we need a decision quickly now - we need it within the next seven days," he told the Evening Post.

"There are around 150 full and part-time staff that could be affected, we are dealing with people's livelihoods here.

"If we don't get an offer in that period, then we don't want to go much further with it."

The club have been criticised in some quarters for not advertising nationally that the club is up for sale.

But Derry believes that is not in the best interests of the club.

He added: "The fear is that someone could come up from London and asset strip the club - and nobody wants that.

"You really want someone locally who is interested in the club and that is why we have only advertised locally."
