Stags united with Hamshaw
CHAD, 21Feb2007
Mansfield Town were united in their grief for winger Matt Hamshaw this week after they heard his wife lost the baby they were expecting last weekend.
Hamshaw has been told to stay at home until he is ready to come back in and missed last night's game at Milton Keynes.
He is unlikely to figure in Saturday's home clash with Wycombe Wanderers either.
"It puts football into perspective and I have got to do things right for Matt and his wife, not the football club," said manager Billy Dearden.
"I have told Matt to ring me when he is ready to come back in and I won't put a time limit on it.
"Matt is a bubbly character and a strong character but I want everything to be right before he comes back in.
"All our thoughts are with him, his wife and his family.
"They were so much looking forward to the birth of their first child.
"This will affect everyone here in the dressing room.
"The rest of the lads can't belive what has happened.
"Also, Matt had been playing his best football I had seen him play for along time over the last seven or eight games, and that includes when I watched him playing for Sheffield Wednesday and Stockport.
"But we have just go to get on with it.
"With Callum Lloyd and Giles Coke injured, this leaves me very short in midfield and I will now really have to push it to get some one else in the building.
"I need something sorted quickly.
"I will speak again to the club with the lad I have been after but, if that can't be sorted, I may have to look elsewhere."
