PAUL Collins, a 20-year-old left back just released by Manchester City, is to join up with Mansfield Town for pre-season training.
"Paul is a player I quite liked when I saw him playing for Manchester City reserves last season when I went to watch Jonathan D'Laryea," said Stags boss Peter Shirtliff.
"He is someone I have kept my eye on and when I heard he had been released I got on the case.
"We are a bit short on left sided players at the club so I thought it would be a good idea to get him in and have a look at him.
"Paul seems keen and is looking forward to it and hopefully it will go right for him."

STAGS RAID MAN CITY FOR PROMISING LEFT-BACK
by MATT HALFPENNY
Evening Post, 17 June 2006
Stags boss Peter Shirtliff has raided Manchester City's reserves again to take left-back Paul Collins on trial.

Collins, 20, will link up with the Stags squad when they return to pre-season training at the end of June. Shirtliff hopes the youngster will make the same kind of impact that midfielder Jonathan D'Laryea has since coming to Field Mill.

"I first saw Paul play in the same team as Jonathan and I have had my eye on him ever since," he said. "I liked the look of him then and now I want to have a closer look at him."

The Stags boss has not stopped negotiating since the season ended, and his work has so far yielded defender Johnny Mullins from Reading. He hopes for definite answers from several more players soon.
