One leg only.
Ties will be played during week commencing 9 September 2002. The tie could see a return to Field Mill of Adam Murray. Stags are also due to play Derby in a friendly on July 30. Sky Sports are contracted to show 2 live games. There appears to be a strong chance of Stags game being one of them. ---------- STAGS READY FOR BIG CUP CLASH Evening Post, 24 July 2002 Division Two new boys Mansfield Town will entertain Derby County in the first round of the Worthington Cup. Stuart Watkiss' side will pit their wits against John Gregory's Rams on Tuesday, September 10. Watkiss said the clash against the Rams would give the Mansfield public a big game to look forward to. The two clubs meet in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday but Watkiss does not believe the Worthington Cup match will have much of bearing on that particular clash. He said: "It's sure to be a big game and it is certainly something for us to look forward to. "The fact Derby have got a number of big names should mean it will be a big attraction. "It shouldn't change much though as far as Tuesday is concerned. "We will certainly not be cagy and we are looking for the friendly to help us continue to prepare for the big kick-off. "We will not be changing things ourselves and I know Derby will watch a couple of our league games before then, as we will too." ----------- Full draw below: PRELIMINARY ROUND Bristol Rovers v Boston United (To be played Tuesday 20 August 2002 kick off 7:45pm) ROUND ONE Huddersfield Town v Darlington Rotherham United v Carlisle United Lincoln City v Stockport County Wrexham v Bradford City Grimsby Town v Chesterfield Northampton Town v Wigan Athletic Mansfield Town v Derby County Oldham Athletic v Notts County Sheffield United v York City Preston North End v Scunthorpe United Hull City v Leicester City Hartlepool United v Tranmere Rovers Nottingham Forest v Kidderminster Harriers Burnley v Blackpool Bury v Stoke City Port Vale v Crewe Alexandra Macclesfield Town v Barnsley Sheffield Wednesday v Rochdale Bristol City v Oxford United Swindon Town v Wycombe Wanderers Walsall v Shrewsbury Town Rushden & Diamonds v Millwall Leyton Orient v Queens Park Rangers Cambridge United v Reading Torquay United v Gillingham Watford v Luton Town AFC Bournemouth v Brentford Bristol Rovers or Boston United v Cardiff City Norwich City v Cheltenham Town Brighton & Hove Albion v Exeter City Crystal Palace v Plymouth Argyle Swansea City v Wolverhampton Wanderers Coventry City v Colchester United Portsmouth v Peterborough United Southend United v Wimbledon (Ties will be played during week commencing 9 September 2002) |
