STAGS IN TALKS WITH STRIKER
22nd July 2002 16:26

Mansfield Town are currently in negotiations with a first division club, over bringing a striker to Field Mill. There has been no fee agreed for the player as of yet, but the fee is thought to be of six figures. Manager Stuart Watkiss says, "I can't say too much yet because it would be unfair to both the player and the club we are in talks with. However,if the deal comes off, it will be an excellent signing for the club." Watkiss has said since the end of last season that he must add to his squad ahead of this season, especially after the departures of Pemberton, Barrett and Greenacre. The signings of Sellars and Gadsby today, don't signal the end of Watkiss's moves in the transfer market. As well as the Division 1 striker being a potential signing, the manager says, "I'd like to add 2 strikers, another midfielder and possibly another defender. If I can do that, we'll be extemely competitive next season." The signing of Scott Sellars has signalled the end for trialist, Kevin Street, at Field Mill. Kevin will return to Crewe.
