On a cold Wednesday evening the Cobblers youth team were in FA Youth Cup second round action at Sixfields with Mansfield Town the opposition.

It didn't take long for the Cobblers to open their account. In just the first minute a Danny Green cross caused problems for the Mansfield defenders leaving Jamie Arlick to head home from close range. The Cobblers continued to press and Ben Coker shot wide from 20 yards.

In the ninth minute Danny Mitchell broke clear only to see his effort well blocked by a Stags defender. From the resulting corner kick the ball again came to Mitchell whose shot this time was over the cross bar.

The Cobblers were awarded a penalty on fifteen minutes when defender Rico Calulo brought down Danny Green in the area. Scott Cross stepped forward to take the spot kick but his effort was well saved by Mansfield goalkeeper Michael Langford.

The Cobblers dominance continued and Cross then shot just wide from the edge of the area before turning provider to set up Green whose effort was also narrowly wide.

On twenty two minutes the Cobblers got the second goal their performance thus far had deserved. Jamie Arlick scored his second of the night, striking the ball home after Cross's initial effort had been saved by Langford.

Danny Mitchell nearly made it 3-0 just minutes later when his shot came off a Mansfield defender and then a post before going behind for a corner.

Mansfield had their first effort on goal on the half hour, Chris Dunn saving from Richard Lonsdale. At the other end Ben Coker curled a shot just wide from the edge of the area.

There was no more action of note in the first half and the Cobblers youngsters took a thoroughly deserved 2-0 lead into the break.

After a quiet opening period to the second half Danny Green's curling effort on seventy three minutes was the first shot of note in the half. Green then crossed for Jamie Arlick, who on a hat-trick, side footed the ball narrowly wide.

On seventy eight minutes a flowing move involving Scott Cross led to Danny Mitchell having a shot which was well saved by the Stags keeper. Liam Dolman slotted home from the resulting corner to wrap up the tie.

Jamie Arlick completed his hat-trick on eighty two minutes. After a corner was only half cleared, Dolman chipped the ball back into the area to set up Arlick.

There was still time for substitute Tian Walton to get in on the act - he sidefooted home from close range after a rampaging run from Tom Bonner to complete the Cobblers smooth passage into round 3.
