SHIRTLIFF AND CASPER REACTION

Back to basics order for Stags
CHAD website
STAGS managerPeter Shirtliff accused his players of complacency and said it was 'back to basics time' after their 3-0 home defeat by fellow strugglers Bury on Friday night.
Stags had won three of their last four games, scoring 12 times, while the Shakers had not won for four matches.
But there was no way back for Mansfield after conceding twice in the first nine minutes.
"That was an horrendous first 20 minutes," said Shirtliff.
"We were just not at the races. I had an inkling before the game that things were not right - a sixth sense if you like - and I was proved right.
"They just didn't have the eye of the tiger ready for the game.
"They are young lads and they have had a nice pat on the back from the media recently. Now they have to get back to basics and word hard."
On what appeared a definite penalty that was refused, he added: "I thought the boy took Richie's legs and it was a clear penalty.
"In the second half we were constantly attacking but Bury defended with a lot of spirit. And our finishing was woeful.
"Clear cut chances were few and far between and we lacked the attention to detail, desire, energy and willingness that we had shown in the previous five or six matches.
"You can't start a game like that and expect to get anything out of it."
Bury manager Chris Casper said; "It was a funny night. We won well and we deserved it for all the hard work we've put in over the last few weeks. But we still didn't play as well as we can.
"I suppose you get greedy. You want to win well and play well. We just didn't play as well as we have been or dominate as we have been.
"We didn't defend as well as we could have done at 2-0 up. We suddenly thought where do we go from here and started to do some daft things.
"At half-time we said the next goal would be the killer and that if it was Mansfield going to score it we would have to make sure they had earned it.
"But with our pace up front we were always looking dangerous and we got the third goal which was a superb finish."

"It was a poor start, we started poorly for the 1st 20 minutes, we weren't at the races, after that we got back into the game, crawled our way back a bit, created a few chances, but we didn't have any conviction in our finishing."

"No idea why we started slowly. I've just told the players that we'll go back to basis and it'll be a long week in training and there'll be some hard work and some harsh words and they'll have to take it on board."

"Our final ball was poor at times, I thought for the majority of the second half we penned them in without opening them up, we were a bit unlucky with a couple of deflected shots that the keeper has got no chance. For the 1st goal we were way too deep, god knows why they were that far back, so back to basis."

"Possibly we missed Gus and Gareth, but it's a chance for players to come in."

On the penalty claim, "From where I was, I looked at Richie's reaction, it looked a penalty."

"We need to get back to where we was before, playing with some energy and spirit."

"I'm hopefull of getting something else in, but nothing at the moment, but i'll be trying next week"
